The Atlanta Sharks were a professional indoor football team based in Loganville, Georgia. They were members of American Indoor Football (AIF) during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. The Sharks joined the AIF in 2013 as an expansion team, by then owner Betty Chaney-Robinson. The Sharks played all of their games on the road as a travel team.

History

The Sharks were announced as an expansion member of American Indoor Football (AIF) on September 6, 2013. [1] On November 19, 2013, Marcus James was officially named the team's first head coach. [2] In the franchise's first ever game, they were defeated 87-32 by the Cape Fear Heroes. [3]

The Sharks started the 2015 season having agreed to play their home games at Creekside Sports Center in Loganville, Georgia. However, when the Sharks were supposed to host the Saginaw Sting during Week 2 of the season, the game was postponed to Week 10.

The Sharks were listed in the 2016 schedule of the Indoor Football Alliance but were not included in the alliance's inaugural draft.

They suspended operations for the 2010 season before becoming an inaugural member of the Ultimate Indoor Football League. The following season they were suspended by the UIFL and re-joined the CIFL under new ownership. The team has since moved to the AIF. The owners of the Sting were Stuart Schweigert, Rob Licht and Jim O'Brien. The Sting played their home games at The Dow Event Center in Saginaw, Michigan.

The Florida Tarpons were a professional indoor football team based in Lakeland, Florida, out of the RP Funding Center. Originally established in Estero, Florida, and playing out of Germain Arena, they began play in 2012 as an expansion team of the Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL). The Tarpons joined the X-League Indoor Football (X-League) during the 2015 season when the UIFL merged with the X-League. They played in the Arena Pro Football (APF) league in 2017 before the league became the American Arena League (AAL) for 2018. For 2019, there was an ownership transition that formed their own Florida-based league, called the A-League, and the team rebranded as the Lakeland Tarpons.
