The Atlas of Lie Groups and Representations is a mathematical project to solve the problem of the unitary dual for real reductive Lie groups.

As of March 2008, the following mathematicians are listed as members:

Atlas Mountains North African mountain range

The Atlas Mountains are a mountain range in the Maghreb in North Africa. It separates the Mediterranean and Atlantic coastlines from the Sahara Desert. It stretches around 2,500 km (1,600 mi) through Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. The range's highest peak is Toubkal, which is in central Morocco, with an elevation of 4,167 metres (13,671 ft). The Atlas mountains are primarily inhabited by Berber populations. The terms for 'mountain' are adrar and adras in some Berber languages. These terms are believed to be cognates of the toponym Atlas. The mountains are also home to a number of animals and plants which are mostly found within Africa but some of which can be found in Europe. Many of these species are endangered and a few are already extinct. The weather is cooling but has sunny summers, and the average temperature there is 25°C.

Steely Dan American rock band

Steely Dan is an American rock band founded in 1971 in Los Angeles, California by core members Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. Initially the band had a stable lineup, but in 1974, Becker and Fagen retired the band from live performances altogether to become a studio-only band, opting to record with a revolving cast of session musicians. Rolling Stone has called them "the perfect musical antiheroes for the Seventies".

Sporadic group

In mathematics, a sporadic group is one of the 26 exceptional groups found in the classification of finite simple groups.

Freundlich (crater)

Freundlich is a lunar impact crater that is located on the far side of the Moon. It lies midway between the craters Trumpler to the north-northwest and the irregular Buys-Ballot to the south-southeast. This crater has a circular rim that is more heavily eroded at the northern and southern ends. Groups of craters lie across the floor to the southeast and the north, and individual small craters lie elsewhere within the interior. The crater is named after Erwin Freundlich.

Manifold Topological space that locally resembles Euclidean space

In mathematics, a manifold is a topological space that locally resembles Euclidean space near each point. More precisely, an n-dimensional manifold, or n-manifold for short, is a topological space with the property that each point has a neighborhood that is homeomorphic to an open subset of n-dimensional Euclidean space.

Differentiable manifold Manifold upon which it is possible to perform calculus

In mathematics, a differentiable manifold is a type of manifold that is locally similar enough to a vector space to allow one to apply calculus. Any manifold can be described by a collection of charts (atlas). One may then apply ideas from calculus while working within the individual charts, since each chart lies within a vector space to which the usual rules of calculus apply. If the charts are suitably compatible, then computations done in one chart are valid in any other differentiable chart.

Skraeling Island lies off the east coast of Ellesmere Island in the Canadian territory of Nunavut, at the mouth of Alexandra Fiord. Buchanan Bay lies to its north-east.

Anti-Atlas Mountain range in Morocco

The Anti-Atlas, also known as Lesser Atlas or Little Atlas is a mountain range in Morocco, a part of the Atlas Mountains in the northwest of Africa. The Anti-Atlas extends from the Atlantic Ocean in the southwest toward the northeast, to the heights of Ouarzazate and further east to the city of Tafilalt, altogether a distance of approximately 500 km. The range borders on the Sahara to the south.

David Alexander Vogan, Jr. is a mathematician at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who works on unitary representations of simple Lie groups.

Jeffrey Adams (mathematician) American mathematician

Jeffrey David Adams (born 1956) is a mathematician at the University of Maryland who works on unitary representations of reductive Lie groups, and who led the project Atlas of Lie groups and representations that calculated the characters of the representations of E8. The project to calculate the representations of E8 has been compared to the Human Genome Project in scope. Together with Dan Barbasch and David Vogan, he co-authored a monograph on a geometric approach to the Langlands classification and Arthur's conjectures in the real case.

The Spicer Islands are an uninhabited island group located in Foxe Basin, within Qikiqtaaluk Region, in the Canadian territory of Nunavut. The Melville Peninsula is to the west, Prince Charles Island to the east, Rowley Island to the north. The two main islands are North Spicer Island and South Spicer Island. They are very low-lying and swampy.

The uninhabited Marvin Islands are located in the Arctic Ocean across the mouth of Disraeli Fiord, in northern Ellesmere Island within the Quttinirpaaq National Park. Ward Hunt Island lies to the northwest. The island group is a part of the Qikiqtaaluk Region, Nunavut, Canada.

Harper Islands is a small uninhabited island group with an area of 8 km2 (3.1 sq mi), which is part of the Baffin Island group located in the Arctic Archipelago in the territory of Nunavut. The group lies at the confluence of Frobisher Bay and the Labrador Sea. Other islands also in the immediate vicinity of the tip of Hall Peninsula, but further north, include Lefferts, Bear, Little Hall, and Hudson islands.
