Attacker

In some team sports, an attacker is a specific type of player, usually involved in aggressive play. Heavy attackers are, usually, placed up front: their goal is to score the most possible points for the team.

In association football, attackers are also referred to as forwards or strikers.

    Jon Dahl Tomasson Danish footballer

    Jon Dahl Tomasson is a Danish former football player and the current manager of Swedish side Malmö FF. A former forward, his most notable run of football came in his first stint at Feyenoord, with whom he won the 2002 UEFA Cup, and Italian club Milan, with whom he won the 2003 UEFA Champions League and reached the final in 2005. He was also honoured with the Danish Player of the Year award in both 2002 and 2004.

    In certain sports, such as football, field hockey, ice hockey, handball, rugby union, lacrosse and rugby league, winger is a position. It refers to positions on the extreme left and right sides of the pitch, or playing field. In American football and Canadian football, the analogous position is the wide receiver. Wingers often try to use pace to exploit extra space available on the flanks that can be made available by their teammates dominating the centre ground. They must be wary however of not crossing the touchline, or sidelines, and going out of play. In sports where the main method of scoring involves attacking a small goal in the centre of the field, a common tactic is to cross the ball to a central teammate.

    Gunnar Nordahl Swedish footballer

    Nils Gunnar Nordahl was a Swedish football player. A highly prolific, powerful, and physically strong striker, with an eye for goal, he is best known for his spell at A.C. Milan from 1949 to 1956, in which he won the Scudetto twice, and also the title of pluricapocannoniere, with an unprecedented five top scorer (Capocannonieri) awards, more than any other player in the history of the Italian championship.

    Michalis Konstantinou is a retired Cypriot football striker. He played for the Cyprus national football team, and he is the all-time leading scorer with 32 goals in 85 appearances. He also played for Iraklis, Panathinaikos and Olympiacos in Greece.

    Division 1 FĂ©minine Top womens football (soccer) league in France

    The Division 1 Féminine, shortened as D1 Féminine or D1F, and currently known as D1 Arkema for sponsorship reasons, is the highest division of women's football in France. Run by the French Football Federation, the league is contested by twelve clubs.

    Edmond Bezik

    Edmond Bezik is a retired Armenian-Iranian footballer and coach. He played for Persepolis, Sepahan and Ararat Tehran and was a member of Iran national football team. He is currently head coach of Persepolis's under-23 team.

    Inka Grings Retired German international footballer

    Inka Grings is a German former international footballer who played as a as a striker. She played sixteen years for FCR 2001 Duisburg. Afterwards she played for FC Zürich Frauen. She also played for the German national team. Grings is the second all-time leading goalscorer in Germany's top division, the Fußball-Bundesliga (women), with 195 goals and claimed the league's top-scorer award for a record six seasons. Playing for Germany, she has also been the top-scorer at two UEFA European Championships. Grings was named Women's Footballer of the Year (Germany) in 1999, 2009 and 2010.

    Bader Al-Mutawa Kuwaiti footballer

    Bader Ahmed al-Mutawa is a Kuwaiti professional footballer who plays for Qadsia and the Kuwait national team, where he usually operates as a second striker. He wears the jersey number 17 for both club and country. He is the second most capped active international male footballer, having made 185 appearances for the Kuwait national team.

    Oleg Veretennikov

    Oleg Aleksandrovich Veretennikov is a professional Russian association football coach and a former international footballer. He is an assistant coach with Rubin Kazan. He is the top goalscorer in the history of Russian Premier League, and holds several other goalscoring records.

    The Highschool Football League, founded in 2006 by Chinese Taipei Football Association, is the second-level football (soccer) league in the Republic of China (Taiwan). The competitions are played between senior-high school teams. In 2008, HFL's main sponsor changed to Chinese Taipei School Sport Federation.

    Reginald "Reggie" Davani is a former Papua New Guinea footballer, who is currently acting Senior Men's coach at Western Pride FC.

    Stavros Sarafis is a retired Greek football player, who spent his entire career in PAOK, playing as a forward. He is one of the club's most famous players and also the all-time top scorer. His nickname was Kaisaras (Caesar).

    Manon Melis Dutch international footballer

    Gabriëlla Maria "Manon" Melis is a Dutch manager of women's football development and a former professional footballer who played as a forward. She was the all-time top goal scorer for the Netherlands national team from 2010–2019. She spent most of her professional career playing in the Swedish league Damallsvenskan, which she won three times with her club LdB FC Malmö, in 2010, 2011, and 2013. In 2011, she won the Swedish Supercup with Malmö. She also had short spells with the Swedish teams Linköping and Göteborg. She was the Damallsvenskan top scorer three times, in 2008, 2010, and 2011. Close to the end of her career, in 2016, she moved to the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) in the US, playing for Seattle Reign, alongside World Cup winners Megan Rapinoe and Hope Solo.
