August Petry

August Arthur Petry (1858, Tilleda - 1932 Nordhausen) was a German botanist and entomologist specialising in Microlepidoptera. [1] He was a teacher of philology at the Gymnasium in Nordhausen. August Petry was a Member of the Stettin Entomological Society. Ottmar Hofmann honoured his name in Caryocolum petryi . His collections are, in part, held by the Natural History Museum of Erfurt.

He was the son of Johann Heinrich and Catherine Margarete. He studied theology at University of Halle. He married Leopoldine Maria Keller in 1770, by whom he had four children. In 1751, he became a pastor in Aschersleben, in Quedlinburg, and later of St. Blasius' Church in Quedlinburg in 1762, finally becoming first deacon of the seminary of Quedlinburg in 1787. He died in Quedlinburg.

He described Caryocolum crepusculella, Gelechia bergiella and Gelechia farinosa among others. Fragments of his microlepidoptera collections are held by the Latvian Museum of Natural History. The bulk did not survive.

TheodosiusGottlieb von Scheven was a pastor and German entomologist who specialised in Lepidoptera and Hymenoptera.

Eduard Voss was a German entomologist, who specialized in beetles (Coleoptera), in particular the weevil family (Curculionidae). He described many new species and a number of beetles are named after him. Much of his beetle collection was lost in World War II, but some of the remaining collection is held in the Zoologischs Museum Hamburg.
