Australasian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education

The Australasian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education, also known as ASCILITE [1] is an incorporated not-for-profit professional association for those engaged in the educational use of technologies in tertiary education. The association, which was incorporated in the state of South Australia in 1987 is governed by the ASCILITE constitution [2] and by-laws in accordance with the Associations Incorporations Act 1985.

ASCILITE is a professionally connected community of over 500 professionals and academics working in fields associated with enhancing learning and teaching through the pedagogical use of technologies. It seeks to shape the future of tertiary education, particularly through enabling and sharing high quality research, innovation and evidence-based technology-enhanced practices in tertiary education.

ASCILITE's membership includes practitioners, researchers and teacher educators, learning designers, web and media developers, Learning & Teaching Directors and senior managers responsible for institutional strategies and budgets that encompass the pedagogical use of technologies. In addition to individual membership, the association offers an institutional membership scheme to tertiary institutions.

The association is widely recognized in the Tertiary Sector and it is included in the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia's professional association listings. [3]

The association is governed by an Executive that consists of a President, Vice-President and Treasurer and 6 non-office bearer committee members elected by the membership in alternate years of 3 members each. The Executive is supported by a Secretariat.

ASCILITE also publishes the Australasian Journal of Educational Technology (AJET) [4] which is a refereed journal publishing research and review articles on educational technologies and the application and integration of those technologies in tertiary education.

ASCILITE holds an annual conference in early December of each year. The conferences are hosted by different host institutions (universities) each year.

History

The beginnings of ASCILITE can be traced to 1983 when the University of Queensland hosted a conference on Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education (CALITE, 1983) that attracted approximately 200 delegates. By 1985 interest had grown and at CALITE (1985) John Bowden led the foundation of the Australian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education (ASCILITE). Since then ASCILITE has hosted annual conferences each December, apart from a collaborative venture with the World Conference on Computers in Education in 1990 when it was host to a special Computer Based Training session and a second collaboration with the TAFE and Schools sectors at the 1994 APITITE (Asia Pacific Information Technology in Training and Education) conference.

During the late 1990s the Society's focus was broadening beyond Australia and in 1997 the Society's name was changed from ‘Australian’ to ‘Australasian’ to reflect the growing regional role that the Society was playing in the area of technology enhanced learning. The hosting of the 2002 conference in Auckland, New Zealand marked the twentieth conference and also the first time that ASCILITE was hosted outside Australia.

It is published in 8 issues per year by the Australasian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education (ASCILITE) as an open access online-only journal. All previous issues, dating from 1985, are accessible online without charges.

These organizations for higher education have a common purpose and mission for advocacy in numerous areas of both institutional management and the general public interest. The organizations have specific purpose for issues from faculty unionization to public policy research and service to institutions. Most are focused on the organization and governance of higher and tertiary education, but some are involved in service and research at all levels of education.

Computer Society of India

Computer Society of India is a body of computer professionals in India. It was started on 6 March 1965 by a few computer professionals and has now grown to be the national body representing computer professionals. It has 72 chapters across India, 511 student branches, and 100,000 members.

The International Association for Military Pedagogy (IAMP) was founded in November 2005 in Strausberg (Germany) as a successor to the European Military Pedagogy Forum (EMPF).

The International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) is the worldwide association of schools of social work, other tertiary level social work educational programs, and social work educators. Institute of IT Professionals

The Institute of IT Professionals (IITP) is a non-profit incorporated society in New Zealand. As New Zealand's ICT professional body, the IITP exists to promote education and ensure a high level of professional practice amongst ICT professionals. Before July 2012, IITP was known as the New Zealand Computer Society Inc (NZCS).

Australian Computers in Education Conference

This National Conference is the biennial conference of the Australian Council for Computers in Education (ACCE). The conference opens to anyone who in interested in sharing their digital teaching experiences. The first conference took place in Melbourne, 1983. Between 1983-1996, the conference was held annually across Australia. After 1996, the conference became biennial. From 1994, a series of frameworks were launched in Australia to integrate Information and Communication Technology(ICT) into education. Western Australia's 2001 Competency framework for Teachers identified teachers as an important component in developing computer education. In 2010, Education Minister Julia Gillard, proposed an education agenda to provide Australia a better education system. Besides ACCE, there are many organizations and conferences supporting the development of computer education in Australia. Technology in education consists of two major approaches: Learning with technology and learning from technology. Technology in education learning and traditional classroom learning have different focuses and defining features. There are also four types of computer education:Bring your own device(BYOD), blended learning, online learning, and flipped learning.

The Association for Tertiary Education Management Inc. is a professional body in Australasia for tertiary education administrators and managers. It was established in 1976 as the Australian Institute of Tertiary Education Administrators (AITEA), changing its name in 1996.

Borys Hrinchenko Kyiv University

Educational management administration of education systems

Educational management refers to the administration of the education system in which a group combines human and material resources to supervise, plan, strategise, and implement structures to execute an education system. Education is the equipping of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, habits, and attitudes with learning experiences. The education system is an ecosystem of professionals in educational institutions, such as government ministries, unions, statutory boards, agencies, and schools. The education system consists of political heads, principals, teaching staff, non-teaching staff, administrative personnel and other educational professionals working together to enrich and enhance. At all levels of the educational ecosystem, management is required; management involves the planning, organising, implementation, review, evaluation, and integration of an institution. Educational management is related to Henri Fayol's 14 Principles of Management.
