The Australian Women's Rugby League is the governing body of female rugby league in Australia and other parts of Oceania and was established in 1993. It currently falls under the Australian Rugby League Commission which oversees its running and management but it took the association five years to be recognized by the Australian Rugby League. Women's Rugby League is the female-only version of the game rugby league football. There are currently clubs for female-only participation running in Australia, Great Britain, and New Zealand which are overseen by the various individual organizations of those separate countries and internationally by the Women & Girls Rugby League.

The AWRL is run at state level by its own governing organizations in the Queensland Women's Rugby League, New South Wales Women's Rugby League, Canberra Women's Rugby League and the Western Australian Women's Rugby League. The main women's competitions in Australia are the Sydney Metro. Women's Rugby League and the QWRL and Brisbane and District Women's Rugby League. [4]

The organisation is responsible for administering the Queensland Women's rugby league team and Brisbane and District Women's Rugby League competition.

The New South Wales Women's Rugby League is the governing body of female rugby league in New South Wales. It is a member of the Australian Women's Rugby League and New South Wales Rugby League. The organisation is responsible for administering the New South Wales Women's rugby league team, Women's City vs Country Origin, Sydney Metropolitan Women's Rugby League and Country Rugby League Women's RL competitions.

The Western Australian Women's Rugby League is the governing body of female rugby league in Western Australia. It is a member of the Australian Women's Rugby League and Western Australian Rugby League. The organisation is responsible for administering the Western Australia Women's rugby league team.

At international level the Women's Australian side is commonly referred to as the Australian Jillaroos.

Since 1995 the AWRL has staged international fixtures against other women rugby league countries.

Women's rugby league is a popular women's sports in Australia. The sport has a high level of participation in the country both recreational and professional. NRL Nines

The NRL Nines is a rugby league nines competition held during the preseason in Perth. It was formerly held in Auckland, staged by Duco Events with the National Rugby League and played annually prior to the beginning of the NRL season proper from 2014 until 2017. The inaugural tournament was staged between 15 – 16 February 2014, with subsequent tournaments being played earlier in the year normally at the end of January. The NRL signed a five-year agreement for Auckland's Eden Park to host the tournament with the 2014 event being the first. This expired in 2018, and the 2020 nines will be held in Perth at HBF Park.

The Great Britain women's national rugby league team, also known as the Great Britain Lionesses, represents Great Britain in Women's rugby league. They are administered by the Rugby Football League. The Great Britain Lionesses have placed third in every Women's Rugby League World Cup in which they have competed. In 2006, the RFL announced that after the 2007 All Golds Tour the Great Britain team would no longer compete on a regular basis, and that players would be able to represent England, Wales and Scotland at Test level. NRL Womens Premiership

The NRL Women's Premiership (NRLW) is Australia's national rugby league competition for female players. The first season of the league began in September 2018 with four teams. The league is run by the National Rugby League (NRL) and is contested by a subset of clubs from that competition. The current premiers are the Brisbane Broncos.
