Driulis González Morales is a Cuban judoka who has won four Olympic medals, including a gold medal in 1996. She carried the flag for her native country at the opening ceremony of the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Team competitions have also been held since 1994. The men's championships began in 1956, though the format and periodicity of the championships have changed over time. The last edition of the championships took place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates in 2024.

It refers to bouts where there is no weight limit and fighters with a dramatic difference in size can compete against each other. It is different from catch weight, where competitors agree to weigh in at a certain amount without an official weight class. While weight classes are usually mandatory now, openweight competition was the norm for combat sports since antiquity and continues into the modern day.
Nesria Al-Jelassi is a Tunisian judoka, who played for the lightweight category. She is a two-time Tunisian judo champion, and a four-time medalist for the 57 and 63 kg classes at the African Judo Championships. She also won a gold medal at the 2011 All-Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique, and silver at the 2007 All-Africa Games in Algiers, Algeria.
Judo at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo featured around 393, 128 judoka competing in 15 events, seven each for both men and women as well as a new mixed team event. The 2020 Summer Olympics were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the judo competitions were held in July 2021 at Nippon Budokan.

Lena Göldi is a Swiss retired judoka who competed in the women's lightweight category. She held six Swiss senior titles in her own division, picked up a total of thirty medals in her career, including a silver from the 2003 European Judo Championships in Düsseldorf, and represented Switzerland as a lone female judoka at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Throughout most of her sporting career, Goeldi trained for the Biel Judo Club in Biel, and also became a full-fledged member of the Swiss national judo squad, under head coach and sensei Leo Held.
Danielle Zangrando is a retired Brazilian judoka who competed in the women's lightweight category. She picked up a total of thirty medals in her career, including three from the Pan American Games, and a bronze from the 1995 World Judo Championships in Chiba, Japan, and also appeared in the 57-kg class in two editions of the Olympic Games. Growing up in Santos, Zangrando took up judo at the age of 5 following her brother to the dojo of sensei Paulo Duarte. Throughout most of her sporting career, Zangrando trained under Duarte as a full-fledged member of the judo squad for Santos FC Judô.
Sagi Aharon Muki is an Israeli half-middleweight judoka. Muki is the 2019 World Champion. He also won the 2015 and 2018 European championships.
Yeldos Smetov is a Kazakh judoka who competes in the under 60 kg weight division. He won gold medals at the 2014 Asian Games and 2015 World Judo Championships, and a silver medal at the 2016 Olympics. He won the bronze medal at the 2020 Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan.

Guusje Steenhuis is a Dutch judoka. She won the bronze medal in the 78 kg event at the 2015 European Games in Baku. She is the four-time silver medalist of European Judo Championships in the 78 kg division. She competed in the women's 78 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
Baruch Shmailov is an Israeli judoka. He competes in the under 66 kg weight category, and won a gold medal in the 2022 World Masters in Jerusalem. Shmailov also won a bronze in the 2017 World Masters, as well as a silver at the 2018 World Masters. As of December 2022, Shmailov is ranked #3 in -66 kg weight category. He competed for Israel at the 2020 Summer Olympics, finishing in fifth place.
Tohar Butbul is an Israeli judoka. He competes in the under 73 kg weight category, where he won silver medals at the 2019 Judo World Masters and the 2021 European Championships, and won bronze medals in the 2017 Paris Grand Slam and 2017 Abu Dhabi Grand Slam. As of March 2018 he was ranked #9 in the world in the U73 kg division. Butbul was a member of the Israeli team that won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Peter Paltchik is a Ukrainian-born Israeli judoka, competing in the under 100 kg weight category, of which he is the current number 1 ranked Judoka in the world. In September 2019 he won the Israeli championship in the 100+ Kg category. Paltchik won the gold medal at the 2020 European Judo Championships in Prague on November 21, 2020, beating Russian judoka Arman Adamian in the final, Adding to his bronze medal from the 2018 European Judo Championships in Tel Aviv. Paltchik also won a bronze medal in the mixed team judo competition in the 2021 Olympics.
Fitzloyd 'Fitz' Dean Walker is a Jamaican-British retired wrestler and judoka, who represented Great Britain and England. In wrestling, he won medals at the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Championship, along with being a record-setting fourteen-time British champion.
Anna-Maria Wagner is a German judoka. She won the gold medal in the women's 78 kg event at the 2021 World Judo Championships held in Budapest, Hungary. She also won one of the bronze medals in both the women's 78 kg and mixed team events at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan.
