The Australian Sidecar Championship is a speedway championship held each year to determine the Australian national champions. The event is sanctioned and run by Motorcycling Australia (MA) [1] and is held in a different state every year. The Australian Sidecar Championship was first held in 1931 at the Melbourne Exhibition Speedway and was won by Victorian pair Les Medlycott and his passenger "Tich" Jones
The 2013 Australian Speedway Sidecar Championship was held at the Gillman Speedway in Adelaide, South Australia, and was won by Darrin Treloar (NSW) and his Victorian swinger Simon Cohrs. It was a record 7th Australian Championship win for Treloar, while for Cohrs it was his second win.
The 2014 Australian Championship was held at the Loxford Park Speedway in Kurri Kurri, New South Wales, on 28–29 March. Darrin Treloar (NSW) won his 8th Australian Championship, his new passenger Blake Cox scored his first win of this championship. [2]
The 2015 Australian Championship was held at the Arunga Park Speedway in Alice Springs on 4–5 April. It was the first time the 402 metres (440 yards) speedway has hosted the championship since 1985. South Australian pair Justin Plaisted and Sam Harrison won the title. For Plaisted, who had won the championship three times as a passenger with Darrin Treloar, it was his first win as a rider.
The 2016 championship was held at the Olympic Park Speedway in Mildura on 8–9 April with NSW pair Darrin Treloar (who won his record 9th title) and Blake Cox taking the win. [3]
The 2017 Australian Championship was held at the Gillman Speedway. South Australia's Trent Headland and his British passenger Darryl Whetstone went one better than they had done in 2016 when they won their first Australian championship with Whetstone also becoming the first non-Australian to win the title. Liverpool Speedway was located in Green Valley, Western Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Liverpool was officially opened by Frank Oliveri and the Oliveri Family, alongside Ald. E. Smith, the mayor of Liverpool at the time, and ran until its sudden and unexpected closure in 1989. Frank Oliveri would later share track management with track announcer and promoter, Channel 7 television sports presenter Mike Raymond.
The Sydney Sports Ground No. 1 was a Stadium and dirt track racing venue in Sydney, New South Wales. The ground was located where the car park of the Sydney Football Stadium (SFS) currently sits. The ground had two main grandstands and was surrounded by a grass covered hill, giving it a capacity of more than 35,000. It was demolished along with the smaller No.2 Ground in 1986 to allow the building of the SFS, which opened in 1988. During its lifespan the sports ground hosted rugby league, rugby union, soccer, motorcycle speedway, and speedway car racing.

Kurri Kurri is the largest town in a group of towns and hamlets, including Stanford Merthyr, Pelaw Main, Weston, Abermain and Heddon Greta, called Kurri Kurri - Abermain by the ABS. Its estimated population was 20,631 at the 2021 census. The population of the Kurri Kurri built-up area was 20,015 at the 2021 census.

The Murray Machining & Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway is a Dirt track racing venue that is located in the town of Murray Bridge, South Australia, only 66 km from Adelaide. Newcastle Motordrome was a dirt track racing venue located on the Old Punt Road in Tomago, New South Wales, just north of the Hunter River and 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) north of the city of Newcastle. The ¼-mile speedway operated from its opening in 1977 until it was sold in 2002. The site of the Motordrome is now warehouses and light industrial factories.

The Sidewinders Speedway is a junior Motorcycle speedway that was opened in 1978 in the semi-industrial Adelaide suburb of Wingfield in South Australia. The Sidewinders U/16 Speedway Club Inc. was founded two years earlier in 1976 by Graham Baker and Roy Bitmead, with help from Rowley Park Speedway riders Robin and Kym Amundson, and their father Bill. As it was then, Sidewinders goal is to promote and develop speedway through its junior ranks with riders aged 4–15, something that had rarely been done in Australia to that point. Once a rider turns 16 he or she then move into the senior ranks.
The Loxford Park Speedway is a motorcycle speedway track located in the area of Loxford, near Kurri Kurri in New South Wales, Australia. It is home to the Kurri Kurri Speedway Club and the Kurri Cobras. Loxford Park also has a 135 m (148 yd) junior track, built on the infield of the main track with the junior track joining onto the main straight and sharing the start-finish line. The site also hosts sidecar racing.
