AvenirSocial is a trade union representing social workers in Switzerland.

The union was founded in 2005, when the Swiss Professional Association of Social Work merged with the much smaller Swiss Professional Association of Social Education and Romandy Federation of Workers in Social Education. [1] It affiliated to the Swiss Trade Union Federation, and on founding had 3,129 members. [2] By 2017, the union's membership had grown slightly, to 3,418. [3]

Trade unions in Switzerland have their origins in the 19th Century when the country began to industrialise. Workers' associations first formed in the 1860s which assumed union functions, mutual insurance activities, sponsored candidates for election and campaigned in referendums. In 1873 a number of the associations in the German-speaking areas formed the Workers' Federation, which represented around 5,000 by the late 1870s and campaigned for legislative reform. In 1880, the Workers' Federation dissolved itself into two separate wings; the Swiss Trade Union Federation (SGB/USS) and the Social Democratic Party.

Iron Front German paramilitary organization

The Iron Front was a German paramilitary organization in the Weimar Republic that consisted of social democrats, trade unionists, and liberals. Its main goal was to defend liberal democracy against totalitarian ideologies on the far right and left, and it chiefly opposed the Sturmabteilung wing of the Nazi Party and the Antifaschistische Aktion wing of the Communist Party of Germany.

Margarethe Faas-Hardegger

Margarethe Faas-Hardegger was a Swiss women's rights activist, trade unionist and the leading figure of the Swiss women workers' movement at the beginning of the 20th century. Her leadership saw the Swiss women workers' movement gain a political and feminist profile. Faas-Hardegger made women's suffrage part of the Swiss trade unions' platform, as well as maternity insurance and the idea of paid housework.

Fenaco

Fenaco is an agricultural cooperative federation in Switzerland, headquartered in Bern. Fenaco is an acronym of its French name fédération nationale des coopératives agricoles. Members of the federation are 186 agricultural cooperatives trading under the name Landi as well as some others. This makes Fenaco indirectly owned by the around 43,000 members of the Landi cooperatives, 22,000 of them being active farmers.
