Avinash Pandey or Pande is an Indian politician from the Indian National Congress party. He has been a Youth Congress leader and held the post of General Secretary in the Indian Youth Congress when Shri Maninder Singh Bitta was the President. He has been a member of the Legislative Council,Maharashtra (Upper House),and was appointed chairman,of Maharashtra State Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (MSSIDC).
He unsuccessfully fought the Rajya Sabha elections from Maharashtra in 2008,against industrialist Rahul Bajaj. [1] He was defeated by Rahul Bajaj by one vote.
He was nominated to contest in June 2010 Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra. He won the election. [2]
On 25 January 2022,he was appointed as the General Secretary of the Indian National Congress Incharge - Jharkhand by Congress President Sonia Gandhi. [3]
He is the Congress party's All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary InCharge - Jharkhand and a Congress Working Committee (CWC) member.

Supreme Court of India,in its judgement dated 10 July 2013 while disposing the Lily Thomas v. Union of India case,ruled that any Member of Parliament (MP),Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) or Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) who is convicted of a crime and given a minimum of two years' imprisonment,loses membership of the House with immediate effect. Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,commonly referred to as the Nyay Yatra was a movement led by the Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi,starting on 14 January 2024 from Thoubal in Manipur and ended on 16 March 2024 in Mumbai spanning east-west of India. The campaign was aimed to increase the party's electoral engagement across the breadth of the country and is seen as a strategy for the upcoming national elections. This political tour was a sequel to the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Unlike the last time though,the Yatra was not done entirely on foot and instead was done in hybrid mode. For the longer parts of the journey,the party used buses. The change was due to time constraint imposed by the upcoming general election.
Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election was held on 13 November 2024. In the previous election held months prior,Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was elected from two seats,Wayanad and Rae Bareli. Indian law states that while one can contest multiple seats in an election,they can only remain an MP for one. Thus,Gandhi resigned from Wayanad thereby causing a by-election. His sister,Priyanka Gandhi,is making a long-awaited electoral debut in the seat,making the election notable. With the results being released on 23 November,she won the seat with a large margin - but below the 5 lakh target set by the Congress.
