The Rashtriya Janata Dal is an Indian political party,mainly based in the state of Bihar. The party was founded in 1997 by Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Although India is a parliamentary democracy,the country's politics has become dynastic or with high level of nepotism,possibly due to the absence of party organizations,independent civil-society associations which mobilize support for a party,or centralized financing of elections. The dynastic phenomenon is present at the national,state,regional,and district level. The Nehru–Gandhi family has produced three Indian prime ministers,and family members have largely led the Congress party since 1978. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also has several dynastic leaders. In addition to the major national parties,other national and regional parties such as Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK),Shiromani Akali Dal,Shiv Sena,Samajwadi Party,Rashtriya Janata Dal,Janata Dal Secular,Jharkhand Mukti Morcha,Kerala Congress,Jammu &Kashmir National Conference,Indian Union Muslim League,AIMIM,and the Nationalist Congress Party are all dominated by families,mostly those of the party founders.
Mohammad Shahabuddin was a politician and former Member of Parliament from the Siwan constituency in the state of Bihar. He was a former member of the National Executive Committee of the Janata Dal and the Rashtriya Janata Dal. Shahabuddin was disqualified from contesting elections following his conviction for the kidnapping and disappearance of Chote Lal Gupta,an activist of the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation for which he was serving a life sentence. He was also accused of killing 15 other Communist Party activists,including the former student leader Chandrashekhar Prasad.
Alok Kumar Mehta is an Indian politician from the state of Bihar. He is a founder member of Rashtriya Janata Dal and has served as Principal General Secretary of the party. Mehta is said to be political mentor of Tejashwi Yadav.

He has been the state president of the Rashtriya Lok Samata Party in Bihar till September 2020. Prior to the Bihar Assembly Elections 2020,he joined Rashtriya Janata Dal. He has also been the representative of the Dhauraiya constituency in the Bihar Legislative Assembly from 2000 to 2009. Dr.Vijay Kumar Shukla,also known as Munna Shukla,is a former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Bihar. He has been elected on three occasions to the Bihar Legislative Assembly. He served a jail term for murder. Later He was Acquitted &again convicted in Brij Behari Prasad murder case in 2024 by Supreme Court.

Brij Behari Prasad,also spelled Brij Bihari Prasad was an Indian politician. A member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD),Prasad served as Minister for Science and Technology in the Government of Bihar. He was arrested for alleged involvement in corrupt admissions to technical institutes and was murdered on 13 June 1998 at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Patna,where he was undergoing treatment. It was claimed that his death was in retribution for his involvement in assassination of gangster Chhottan Shukla and five other people,who were killed on 4 December 1994,while returning home from a campaign organised in context of 1995 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections. Shukla was a gangster from the Bhumihar community,whereas Prasad was a Bania. Supporters of Prasad were thought to be responsible for the killing of Shukla.
Shakuni Choudhary is an Indian politician who is a founding member of Samata Party. He was elected to the Lok Sabha,lower house of the Parliament of India from Khagaria Lok Sabha constituency as member of the Samata Party. Choudhary has been known for political defection and has remained Deputy Speaker in the Bihar Legislative Assembly.

In 2014,Samrat planned a split in Rashtriya Janata Dal by defecting thirteen MLAs as splinter group of the party,later joining the BJP. In 2022,he was selected as the Leader of Opposition in Bihar Legislative Council. In 2024,he was also made the convener of Group of Ministers on Goods and Service Tax rate rationalisation panel.
Vyas Deo Prasad also known as Vyas Deo Prasad Kushwaha is an Indian politician,former Minister of state in the Government of Bihar from April 2008 to November 2010. He represented Siwan in the Bihar Legislative Assembly thrice in a row winning 2005,2010,2015 elections. In 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly election,he was denied a ticket to contest from Siwan in favour of Om Prakash Yadav who lost the election to Awadh Bihari Choudhary.
Vijaylakshmi Devi also known as Vijay Lakshmi Kushwaha is an Indian politician and a member of Indian Parliament,Lok Sabha from Siwan Lok Sabha constituency. She was elected to the Lok Sabha on the symbol of Janata Dal (United) in 2024 Indian general election. She is the wife of former JDU legislator,Ramesh Singh Kushwaha,who represented Ziradei Assembly constituency falling within Siwan Lok Sabha constituency.
Suresh Mehta is an Indian politician and a member of Rashtriya Janata Dal political party based in Bihar. Mehta was elected to Bihar Legislative Assembly on the symbol of Rashtriya Janata Dal in 2000 Bihar Legislative Assembly election. He is the sole non-Rajput candidate to be elected from Aurangabad Vidhan Sabha constituency to Bihar Legislative Assembly since the commencement of elections in until now.
