Awesome Con is an annual pop culture convention in Washington, D.C. The event takes place in the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

Awesome Con debuted in 2013 and became one of the largest fan conventions on the East Coast of the United States. [3] The 2013 event drew about 7,000 attendees. The 2024 event hosted 60,000 attendees. Celebrity guests have included David Tennant, John Boyega, Hayden Christensen, Stan Lee, Rosario Dawson, William Shatner, George Takei, and many others. History

Civil rights activist and Congressman John Lewis attended Awesome Con in 2014. He spoke at a panel about his autobiographical graphic novel "March", which covers his childhood and civil rights activity. [6]

The 2020 convention was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was originally scheduled for Spring 2020 and was rescheduled for December 2020, but was eventually called off completely. Awesome Con returned in August of 2021 [7] with guests Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Billy Boyd, Christina Ricci, George Takei, Adam Savage, William Shatner, and more. [8]

The Walter E. Washington Convention Center is a 2.3-million-square-foot (210,000 m2) convention center located in Washington, D.C., owned and operated by the city's convention arm, Events DC. Designed in a joint venture by the Atlanta-based architecture firm Tvsdesign, Washington, D.C.- based architects Devrouax & Purnell Architects Planners PC and Mariani and Associates, the convention center is located in a superblock bounded by Mount Vernon Square and 7th, 9th and N streets, N.W. It is served by the Mount Vernon Square station on the Yellow and Green lines of the Washington Metro. It was completed in 2003.

Katsucon is an annual three-day anime convention held during February at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland. It is traditionally held in February over Presidents Day weekend and was previously held in various locations around Virginia and Washington, D.C. The basis of the convention's name is not clear, as "katsu" in the Japanese language has various meanings, including pork.

To the Stars: The Autobiography of George Takei, Star Trek's Mr. Sulu is an autobiography by actor George Takei, first published by Pocket Books in 1994. Takei describes his early childhood and the time his family spent in Japanese American internment, and experiences which shaped his motivation towards political activism. He initially entered University of California, Berkeley with the plan to attend architecture school, but later told his parents he wanted to be an actor and graduated with a degree in drama. He discusses his early acting roles and his experiences on Star Trek, including conflicts with William Shatner. Takei was pleased when his character Sulu had a prominent role as Captain of the starship Excelsior in the movie Star Trek VI.

Phoenix Fan Fusion is a speculative fiction entertainment and comic book convention held annually in Phoenix, Arizona. It was founded as the Phoenix Cactus Comicon in June 2002, and originally consisted of a one-day six-hour event held in Ahwatukee, Arizona. The convention plays host to comic related panels, programming events, art contests, and autograph signings for all ages. It is a three-day event (Friday-Sunday) held during the summer at the Phoenix Convention Center in downtown Phoenix. Comicpalooza is a large annual, multi-genre, comic book, science fiction, anime, gaming, and pop culture convention in the Southern United States and is held in Houston, Texas. Anime Matsuri is an annual four-day anime convention traditionally held during spring at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. The convention's name comes from the Japanese word 'matsuri' meaning festival.

Houstoncon was an annual multi-genre fan convention which was held between 1967 and 1982 in Houston, Texas. Houstoncon started out as a member of the Southwesterncon series of regional conventions, but eventually became an independent con.
