Ayele Mezgebu (born 6 January 1973) is a retired Ethiopian long-distance runner who specialized in cross-country running. HIs best finish in international competitions was a second-place finish in the 3,000 metres steeplechase at the 1992 World Junior Championships.
He is the older brother of Assefa Mezgebu.

Assefa Mezgebu is a retired Ethiopian long-distance runner, best known for winning a bronze medal in the 10,000 metres event at the 2000 Summer Olympics. He was also the runner-up at the 2001 World Championships in Athletics, following a bronze medal at the 1999 World Championships in Athletics. He also competed in cross-country running and reached the podium at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 1998 and 2000.

He was the first athlete to achieve a gold medal double at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Athletics, taking victory in the 5000 metres and 10,000 metres. This feat has since been matched by Haile Gebrselassie, Daniel Komen and Assefa Mezgebu. While all three of those athletes won senior medals at global level, this feat would remain the highlight of Chumba's career.
