Azhar Abbas is a senior Pakistani journalist and the current managing director of Geo News. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Personal life

Abbas's father was Mirza Abid Abbas, an educationist who was the former secretary of the Hyderabad Board of Education; he died in 2002. [5] Abbas has four brothers, retired Major General Athar Abbas, Zaffar Abbas, Anwer Abbas, and Mazhar Abbas. [6] [7]

In 2008 Abbas's brother, Athar Abbas, became the Director General of the ISPR. [8] He served until 2012 and was Pakistan's Ambassador to Ukraine from 2015 to 2018. [9] His other brother Mazhar Abbas is the secretary general of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, [10] while another brother, Zaffar Abbas, is the editor of Dawn (newspaper). He has another brother named Anwer Abbas. [5] [11]

He is married and has a daughter and a son.

Journalism career

He has been involved in mainstream journalism since 1990. He started his career with an English-language daily newspaper as a reporter. He had completed his master's degree in economics from the University of Karachi in 1990. He is a recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship program and studied at Boston University and Newhouse School of Communication. [12] He has also worked for Dawn News as the director of news and current affairs. He joined Bol News when the network was established but left after the Axact scandal. [13] [14] He is a strong supporter of the journalistic community in Pakistan and an advocate for their well-being.[ according to whom? ] [15] [16]

Mazhar Abbas is a Pakistani journalist currently working with Geo News as Senior Analyst and columnist for Daily Jang. Previously he was the deputy director of ARY News Television, the bilingual news channel in Pakistan, and the secretary general of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists. He is the brother of Zaffar Abbas, the editor of Dawn, and Azhar Abbas (journalist), the managing director of Geo News.

Dr. Athar Ali was a Pakistani system engineer and a rocket scientist who was murdered in Karachi on 4 October 2003. He was an expert in missile technology and was the senior scientist at the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) during the time of the development of Shaheen missile guidance system. SUPARCO is a Pakistani governmental agency. His death led to the mass demonstration in a Shiite community in Karachi.

The program is hosted by Pakistan's renowned investigative journalist, Kamran Khan. Mr Khan has been part of the country's media industry for 34 years. His show tries to untangle the twists and turns of Pakistani politics, social and economic issues. The program covers major national, regional and international stories through a combination of high-profile interviews, special reports, commentary and analysis. It is broadcast live from Karachi from 9:30 to 11:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
