University of Chittagong is a public research university with multidisciplinary faculties situated across a 2110-acre hilly landmass in Jungle Poshchim-potti area of Fatehpur Union of Hathazari Upazila, 22 kilometres north of Chittagong city of Bangladesh. This university has the largest campus among Bangladrshi universities. The academic activities of the university formally began on 18 November, 1966. It has about 24,000 students and more than 1000 faculty members.

In 1878 the school was named after Ashley Eden, Lieutenant Governor of Bengal. The college moved to its present premises in 1963. It is affiliated with the University of Dhaka.

The bailey road is considered as two distinct roads, one after another, they are the new baily road and the Baily road. Bailey Road was featured in a song of the same name by Ayub Bachchu, lead singer of the popular rock band LRB. Bailey Road was officially renamed Natok Soroni, in recognition of the road's contributions to performing arts in the capital.

Begum Badrunnessa Ahmed was a Bangladeshi social worker and politician. She was elected as a Jatiya Sangsad member three times and served as the State Minister for Women, Education, Sports and Cultural Affairs until her death in 1974.
