BNS Haji Mohsin [1] [2] [3] is a naval base of the Bangladesh Navy. [4] [5] It was established after the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, and named in honour of Haji Muhammad Mohsin. The base is the principal logistics base of the Bangladesh Navy, and is located in the Dhaka Cantonment. [6]

Career

The Haji Mohsin currently serves as logistical and administrative support base to the headquarters of the Bangladesh Navy. About 3,000 personnel serve at Haji Mohsin. Some naval training is also provided here.[ citation needed ]

Haji Muhammad Mohsin was a prominent Bengali Muslim philanthropist. His most notable contribution was to establish the Hooghly Mohsin College and the Hooghly Imambara. He also played a significant role during the Great Bengal famine of 1770 by helping thousands of the victims.

Musharraf Husain Khan was a Bangladesh Navy rear admiral who has served as the chief of the Bangladesh Navy from 7 November 1973 to 3 November 1979. After the Bangladesh war of Independence, Admiral Khan was appointed as the 1st chief of the naval staff of the Bangladesh Navy in November 1973 by the Prime Minister Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. During his tenure, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 10 December 1974 commissioned Bangladesh Navy's largest training base BNS Issa Khan and also handed over "naval ensign" to Bangladesh Navy on the same day.

The Khulna Shipyard Limited(Bengali: খুলনা শিপইয়ার্ড লিমিটেড) is a Bangladeshi state-owned defense contractor based in Khulna, Bangladesh. It is located on 68.97 acres (27.91 ha) of land at Labanchara, Khulna, Bangladesh. It is about 45 km north from the Port of Mongla. The shipyard has the capacity to build steel / aluminium ships up to 90 m length and 700 tons lightweight. The shipyard has a slipway with a capacity to dock and undock vessels up to 700 tons lightweight and overall length of 84 meters.

Rear Admiral M Hasan Ali Khan was Chief of Staff of the Bangladesh Navy between 2005 and 2007. He was preceded by Rear Admiral Shah Iqbal Mujtaba ndc, psc, BN and succeeded by Vice Admiral Sarwar Jahan Nizam ndu, psc, BN.

Abu Sayed Mohammad Abdul Awal is a retired Bangladesh Navy Rear Admiral and former Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Personnel).

Mahbub Ali Khan was a Bangladesh Navy rear admiral and the chief of naval staff from 1979 until his death in 1984. He is known for his heroic actions for his country. Under him, the South Talpatti sandbar and other emerging islands in the Bay of Bengal, over which both India and Bangladesh claimed sovereignty, remained under the authority of Bangladesh. He is also known for reducing piracy in the Bay of Bengal and was responsible for maintaining the security of the Bay and the Sundarbans.

Bangladesh and Maldives established diplomatic relations in 1978. Rear Admiral Akhtar Habib is the Bangladeshi High Commissioner to the Maldives.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">BNS Sher-e-Bangla</span> Naval base of Bangladesh Navy

BNS Sher-e-Bangla is the first all service naval base being developed for the Bangladesh Navy at Rabnabad, Patuakhali. With an area of 700 acres. this is the largest naval base of the Bangladesh Navy. Of that area, 300 acres of land have been developed for naval base and 400 acres is devoted for naval aviation and submarine operations. It is named after the 1st Prime Minister of Bengal, A. K. Fazlul Huq, who was known as Sher-e-Bangla or the Tiger of Bengal.

Khondkar Misbah-ul-Azim NPP, ndu, afwc, psc is a two star Admiral of Bangladesh Navy currently serving as ambassador (Navy) under Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prior that he was Commander Chittagong Naval Area (COMCHIT) and Dhaka Naval Area (COMDHAKA).

Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail (TAS), NUP, PPM, psc, BN was a former two-star admiral in Bangladesh Navy. His last appointment was Chairman of Chattogram Port Authority. Prior to join here he was Chairman of Payra Port Authority. Before that, he was serving as the Director of Submarine at the Navy Headquarters.
