Approximately 80 aircraft and five Mil Mi-17 were destroyed by the devastating 1991 Bangladesh cyclone.

The Mikoyan MiG-29 is a twin-engine fighter aircraft designed in the Soviet Union. It is known as the Mi-8M series in Russian service. The helicopter is mostly used as a medium twin-turbine transport helicopter, as well as an armed gunship version.

The Russian Air Force is a branch of the Russian Aerospace Forces, the latter being formed on 1 August 2015 with the merging of the Russian Air Force and the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces. The aircraft is manufactured by Voronezh Aircraft Production Association in Voronezh. In October 2023, according to a source inside the Russian industrial-military complex, it was reported that the Il-112 project will be redesigned and renamed into the Ilyushin Il-212, the main difference being that now the aircraft will be equipped with turbofan instead of turboprop.

Forces Goal 2030 is a military modernisation programme in Bangladesh that began in 2009 and was revised in 2017. It was designed to enhance the capabilities of three service branches of the Armed Forces: the Army, the Navy and the Air Force. The primary focus of the modernisation programme is the reformation of the military organisation, expansion of the forces, transformation of the indigenous defence sector to support research and manufacturing, and acquisition of modern military weapons.
