The Bangladesh Armed Forces are the military forces of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. They consist of the three uniformed military services: the Bangladesh Army, the Bangladesh Navy and the Bangladesh Air Force. The Armed Forces are under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Defence of the Government of Bangladesh, and are directly administered by the Armed Forces Division of the Prime Minister's Office. The President of Bangladesh serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. Bangladesh has the third-largest defence budget in South Asia, The Bangladeshi military is the 37th strongest in the world and the third most powerful military force in South Asia. Border Guard Bangladesh and Bangladesh Coast Guard are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs. during peacetime, but during wartime they fall under the command of Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Navy respectively.
The United States Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) is a major command of the United States Army headquartered at Fort Eustis, Virginia. It is charged with overseeing training of Army forces and the development of operational doctrine. TRADOC operates 37 schools and centers at 27 different locations. TRADOC schools conduct 1,304 courses and 108 language courses. The 1,304 courses include 516,000 seats for 443,231 soldiers; 36,145 other-service personnel; 8,314 international soldiers; and 28,310 civilians.
The Bangladesh Army is the land warfare branch and the largest component of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. The primary mission of the Army is to provide necessary forces and capabilities to deliver the Bangladeshi government's security and defence strategies and defending the nation's territorial integrity against external attack. Control of personnel and operations is administered by the Army Headquarters, Dhaka. The Bangladesh Army is also constitutionally obligated to assist the government and it's civilian agencies during times of domestic national emergency. This additional role is commonly referred to as "aid to civil administration".
The Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) provides the armour capability of the Sri Lanka Army, with vehicles such as the T-55AM2, and type 80/88 main battle tanks; the BMP infantry fighting vehicle; and the BTR-80, and WZ551 armoured personnel carriers. It comprises five regular armoured regiments, a volunteer regiment, and a regimental band. It has an independent Armoured Brigade and is headquartered at Rock House Army Camp, Colombo.
Robert William Cone was a United States Army four-star general who last served as the commanding general of United States Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC). He assumed command of TRADOC on April 29, 2011. He previously served as the commander of Fort Hood and III Corps on September 22, 2009, with which he deployed to Iraq in February 2010, and served as the Deputy Commanding General for Operations, United States Forces – Iraq, until February 2011. Prior to that, he served as the Special Assistant to the Commanding General of TRADOC. He retired in 2014.
Savar Cantonment is a cantonment of Bangladesh Army located in Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The 9th Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army is garrisoned there. Corps of Military Police Centre & School (CMPC&S), Army Institute of Business Administration (AIBA), Savar Golf Club (SGC), Savar DOHS and many more establishments are located in the cantonment.
Chowdhury Hasan Sarwardy, Bir Bikram, SBP, BSP, OSP, ndc, psc is a retired lieutenant general of Bangladesh Army and former commandant of National Defence College. He previously served as GOC of Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC).
Major General Devinda Kalupahana, RSP, USP, psc, SLAC was a Sri Lankan army general, who was the former GOC, 3 Division; GOC, 2 Division; Director Operations, General Staff and Commandant, Sri Lanka Military Academy.
Mymensingh Cantonment is a military installation, situated at the heart of Mymensingh. It was formally headquartered the 19th Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army. Currently, it has the headquarters of Army Training and Doctrine Command, which consists of its Battle Group within the cantonment. The 77th Infantry Brigade under the 19th Infantry Division is also located in this cantonment. The first General Officer Commanding of ARTDOC was Major General Md Zia-Ur-Rahman.
Major General Channa Gunathilaka, RSP, USP, ndc, psc, SLE was a senior general of the Sri Lanka Army, who was the current Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army. He was the former Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Security Force Commander (Central), Military Secretary, Security Force Commander (Kilinochchi), GOC - 56th Infantry Division, GOC - Mannar.
Sabbir Ahmed, SBP, OSP, SGP, ndc, psc, is a retired lieutenant general of the Bangladesh Army who served as Chief of General Staff in the Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC). He also served as General-Officer-Commanding (GOC). Before that he was GOC of the 24th Infantry Division in Chittagong. He also served as GOC of 66th Infantry Division, Director of Military Training (DMT) of Army Headquarters Military Training Directorate of Bangladesh Army.
S M Matiur Rahman OSP (BAR), SUP, afwc, psc, is a retired three-star-rank Bangladesh Army officer, a lieutenant general. He was general officer commanding, Army Training and Doctrine Command, Mymensingh Cantonment. Prior to join ARTDOC, he was GOC of 24 Infantry Division and area commander of Chattogram area. Earlier, he was adjutant general of the Bangladesh Army. He was also vice chairman of Trust Bank's board of directors. He served as general officer commanding (GOC) of 55 Infantry Division & Area Commander of Jessore Area. He also served as the director of Counter-Terrorism Intelligence Bureau (CTIB) of Directorate General of Forces Intelligence. He served as commander of 46th Independent Infantry Brigade. He also served as additional director general (operations) of the Rapid Action Battalion.
Mohammad Saiful Abedin, BSP, ndc, psc is a retired major general in the Bangladesh Army. He was General officer commanding (GOC) of the 24th Infantry Division and Area Commander, Chattogram Area. He is the former director general of DGFI. He previously served as Commandant of Defence Services Command & Staff College (DSCSC). He was also the Commandant of Bangladesh Infantry Regimental Centre (BIRC). He also served in 71 Mechanized Brigade as Commander.
403 Battle Group is the only military organization of Bangladesh Army established to test and validate existing and new doctrine related to training and operations. It is part of the Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC).
Anwar Hussain is a retired 3 Star General of the Bangladesh Army. He has served as the Quarter Master General of the Army. He is the former Director General of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) and General officer Commanding (GOC) of Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC). He has been honored as the Colonel Commandant of Regiment of Artillery of Bangladesh Army as he is the highest Ranking and senior longest serving officer of Regiment of Artillery of Bangladesh Army.
Sheikh Mohammad Shafiuddin Ahmed is a retired Bangladeshi four star general who was Chief of Army Staff (CAS) of the Bangladesh Army, from 24 June 2021 to 23 June 2024. Prior to his appointment as CAS, he served as the quartermaster general (QMG) of Bangladesh Army as a lieutenant general. In his 40 year long military career he has also served as director general of Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS), Director of Military Training (DMT), besides commanding an infantry brigade and an infantry division.
SM Kamrul Hassan is a two-star general of the Bangladesh Army. As Major General he is currently appointed as Senior Directing Staff at National Defence College, prior to that he was the Commandant of Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) and also commanded the 66th Infantry Division and Rangpur Area, as General-Officer-Commanding (GOC). He was commissioned in the East Bengal Regiment with the 21st BMA Long Course as the top cadet in weapons training.
Ahmed Tabrez Shams Chowdhury SBP, BSP, ndc, psc is a Lieutenant General of the Bangladesh Army and General Officer Commanding of Army Training and Doctrine Command. Prior to that, he was Director General of Directorate General of Forces Intelligence. He is the former General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 10th Infantry Division (Ramu) and Area Commander, Cox’s Bazar Area and 33rd Infantry Division (Cumilla) and Area Commander, Cumilla Area.
