BNS Sher-e-Bangla is the first all service naval base being developed for the Bangladesh Navy at Rabnabad, Patuakhali. [2] With an area of 700 acres. [3] this is the largest naval base of the Bangladesh Navy. Of that area, 300 acres of land have been developed for naval base and 400 acres is devoted for naval aviation and submarine operations. [4] [5] [6] It is named after the 1st Prime Minister of Bengal, A. K. Fazlul Huq, who was known as Sher-e-Bangla or the Tiger of Bengal.
On 20 November 2013, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation for BNS Sher-e-Bangla at Rabnabad, Patuakhali. [7] On 2 January 2018, the executive committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved a project titled 'Establishment of BNS Sher-e-Bangla Patuakhali', worth Taka 1,081.50 crore. [8] The project was overseen by The Ministry of Defence, Bangladesh Navy and the Engineer in Chief Section of Bangladesh Army. [9] On 12 July 2023, The Prime Minister of Bangladesh commissioned [10] BNS Sher-e-Bangla through online VTC from his office. Navy Chief Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal handed over the commissioning order to the base commander Commodore M Mohabbat Ali. After that, the name plaque was unveiled as per the custom of the Navy. [11]
The naval base comprises training facilities of New Entry Trainee Sailors (NETS) besides aviation & submarine facilities at Kalapara, Patuakhali. The base also has a unit of diving salvage for special operations Apart from this, there are administrative buildings, aviation support and hangar facilities, multipurpose sheds, various repair and maintenance workshops to facilitate operational activities, a naval school & college and a 50-bed hospital.
According to Bangladeshi officials, the main role and functions of this base will be to provide maritime and coastal protection, air support at the seaport and its adjacent areas, and resistance to attack from external enemies. [4] [12]

Border Guard Bangladesh and Bangladesh Coast Guard are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs during peacetime, but during wartime, they fall under the command of the Bangladesh Army and the Bangladesh Navy, respectively.
Sheikh Hasina is a Bangladeshi politician who served as the tenth prime minister of Bangladesh from June 1996 to July 2001 and again from January 2009 to August 2024. She is the daughter of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first president of Bangladesh. She served in the position of prime minister for over 20 years, making her the longest-serving prime minister in history of Bangladesh. Thus, she became the world's longest-serving female head of government. Her authoritarian regime ended in self-imposed exile following an uprising in 2024.

The Khulna Shipyard Limited(Bengali: খুলনা শিপইয়ার্ড লিমিটেড) is a Bangladeshi state-owned defense contractor based in Khulna, Bangladesh. It is located on 68.97 acres (27.91 ha) of land at Labanchara, Khulna, Bangladesh. It is about 45 km north from the Port of Mongla. The shipyard has the capacity to build steel / aluminium ships up to 90 m length and 700 tons lightweight. The shipyard has a slipway with a capacity to dock and undock vessels up to 700 tons lightweight and overall length of 84 meters.

Matarbari Port is a under-construction sea-port on the shores of Bay of Bengal, located at Matarbari area of Chittagong division, Bangladesh. Construction of the port began in the late 2010s with the construction of a Captic Jetty for the Matarbari Power Plant, and later the Government of Bangladesh undertook a project to build a full-fledged commercial port. After construction, it will be Bangladesh's first deep-sea port. It is estimated that the cost for the construction of the port in the first phase will be ৳177.77 billions to ৳200.00 billions including the approach road.
