Her younger sister, Mannat, suffers from kidney disease; unbeknownst to their parents, Mannat urgently needs a kidney transplant. Bani works in an event management company, where she meets Rajat Khanna whom she misunderstands to be rich and one of the owners. However, Rajat is not rich or ambitious, and believes in living life within his means and being satisfied with what he has. Rajat wishes to marry his girlfriend, Lavanya, who is from a rich background and is the owner of the event management company for which Bani and Rajat work. However, Rajat is heartbroken when Lavanya leaves him due to his unwillingness to live separately with her after marriage, away from the Khanna family.

Both Bani's parents and Rajat's parents wish for their respective children to get married soon. Bani hopes to marry a rich and ambitious man who can help pay for Mannat's expensive medical treatment and help Bani achieve her own dreams and financial goals. Meanwhile, Rajat hopes to marry a woman of a similar financial background to him who will not insist on living away from his family. Bani and Rajat, having become friends through working together, agree to marry each other when a matchmaker brings their marriage alliance to their respective families. Bani's misunderstanding about Rajat's financial condition persists until after their wedding, when they both realise the truth of their situation.
