The Badminton men's team event at the 1998 Asian Games was scheduled from 8 - 11 December 1998 at Thamassat University Sports Complex, Bangkok, Thailand.
Defending champion, Indonesia successfully retained their gold medal after defeating China 4 - 0 in the final. It was in this event, the Indonesian team had introduced their future star, The Enigma Taufik Hidayat for the first time. Being just at 17, Hidayat clinched the winning point in the 2nd singles match to earn Indonesia the gold medal. Below are the summaries and results for the Semifinals and Final matches of the event.

Lin Dan is a Chinese professional badminton player. He is a two-time Olympic champion, five-time World champion, as well as a six-time All England champion.
Boonsak Ponsana is a male badminton player from Thailand. His younger sister Salakjit Ponsana is also part of the Thailand badminton team. He got a Bachelor of Laws from Sri Patum.
Taufik Hidayat is a retired Indonesian badminton player. He is a former World and Olympic champion in the men's singles. He has also won the Indonesia Open six times.
Sony Dwi Kuncoro is a badminton singles player from Indonesia. He was the 2004 Olympic bronze medalist, two-time World Championships medalist and three-time Asian Champion. He reached a career high as world number 3 in October 2003.
Zhang Ning is a former badminton player from the People's Republic of China. She won the Olympic gold medal twice for women's singles in both 2004 and 2008. She has played badminton on the world scene since the mid-1990s and has been particularly successful since 2002 while in her late twenties and early thirties, relatively late for singles at the highest level, and especially for top players in the Chinese system who are developed very early. She is known for her consistency of shot, deception and constant pressure, dictating the pace of rallies and working her opponents in all four corners of the court. She is the only female player to win consecutive Olympic singles gold medals.

In Southeast Asia, Indonesia is one of the major sport powerhouses in the region by winning the Southeast Asian Games 10 times since 1977.
Chen Jin is a retired male badminton player from China. He is the former World Men's singles Champion, after defeating Taufik Hidayat in the final of the 2010 BWF World Championships in Paris. He currently coaches the Chinese elite Women's Singles.

Park Sung-hwan is a badminton player from South Korea. Park is the top-ranked men's singles player in South Korea and has succeeded at an international level, winning individual medals at both the 2010 World Championships and the 2010 Asian Games.
Simon Santoso is an Indonesian former badminton player. He was two time Southeast Asian Games men's singles champion winning in 2009 and 2011, also featured in Indonesia team that won the men's team title in 2003, 2007, 2009, and 2011. Santoso won the Indonesia Open a Superseries Premier tournament in 2012. He reached a career high as world number 3 in August 2010.

Hsieh Yu-hsing is a men's singles and mixed doubles international badminton player from Chinese Taipei (Taiwan). Hsieh started to play badminton international championships since 2002. At the moment, Hsieh had become the men's singles No.1 international player in Taiwan, but he always being drawn to face more stronger players in the overseas countries tournament. In 2008, 2009, and 2010, he always knocked out in the second round and sometimes in the last eight in most tournament he attended. He was even knocked out in the first round because of facing more stronger overseas players. Hsieh had become world ranking No.33 in the men's singles international player now so that he is always met more stronger players in the second round and sometimes in the first round.
Parupalli Kashyap is a badminton player from India. He trains at Gopichand Badminton Academy. He was awarded the Arjuna Award by Government of India in 2012.
Ratchanok Intanon is a Thai badminton player who became the first Thai to become No.1 in women's singles. She is known for her relaxed hitting motion and light footwork, which has been described as 'balletic' by commentators such as Gillian Clark. She became world champion in women's singles in 2013.

Ihsan Maulana Mustofa is an Indonesian badminton player who plays in singles event. He is from PB. Djarum, a badminton club in Kudus, Central Java and has joined the club since 2010. He was a boys' singles bronze medalist of the 2013 World Junior Championships that was held in Bangkok, Thailand. He played in the decisive matches for Indonesia to win the team event at the 2015 and 2017 Southeast Asian Games.
The badminton women's team tournament at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta took place from 19 to 22 August at Istora Gelora Bung Karno.
