Badr Mohammed Al Meer is a Qatari business officeholder who serves as the CEO of Qatar Airways since November 5,2023. He was announced as the new CEO of the airline following the resignation of longtime CEO Akbar Al Baker after 27 years. [1] He previously served as chief operating officer of Hamad International Airport. [2] He is an engineer by training. [3]
Before being selected as the new CEO of Qatar Airways,Al Meer was chief operating officer of Hamad International Airport which he joined in June 2014. [4] While at the airport,Al Meer was involved in efforts to implement a "smart airport" vision including usage of biometrics,robotics,and blockchain. [5] [6] [7] He was recognized as a top travel leader in the region during his tenure and the airport won awards from Skytrax. [8] [9]
Prior to Hamad International Airport,Al Meer worked for nine years at the United Development Company,a major construction company in Qatar,including a stint as its acting CEO. [10] [11] He also had a previous stint at Qatar Airways serving as senior vice president of the facilities management and capital projects divisions for the group. [12]
Al Meer holds degrees in engineering from the American University of Beirut and the University of Colorado. [13]

Women in Qatar are subject to the country's male guardianship law. Qatar is the only remaining country in the Gulf region with such laws,which are influenced by the Wahhabi interpretation of Islam.Women in Qatar were enfranchised at the same time as men. Labour force participation rates of Qatari women are above the world average and among the highest in the Arab World,which comes mainly as a result of an increasing number of Qatari women who are attaining academic degrees.
The Qatar Museums (QM) Public Art Department is responsible for overseeing the installation of artwork by renowned artists in the public realm in Qatar,creating an artist residency program for young local artists to help them develop their skills,organizing exhibitions featuring international artists and developing an online community of both local and international creative talents. The QM intends to develop Qatar into a world-class cultural destination,notably in modern and contemporary art.
Al Maha Airways was a planned subsidiary airline of Qatar Airways to serve the Saudi Arabian travel market. It was based initially at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah,and then at Hamad International Airport in Doha. The beginning of operations was postponed several times following its initial announcement in 2014,and then cancelled entirely by February 2017 following issues obtaining its operational license and the Qatar diplomatic crisis.
