Bagh Maidan is a village in Lower Dir District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The name derives from the words bagh, meaning "garden", and maidan, meaning "plane area".

Geography

Bagh is located around four hours' travel by road from the city of Peshawar. It is within the district administered by Timergara, and Kumber supplies the nearest bazaar. The village is surrounded by the Sheklaie and Seyasand mountains, with further ranges to the west and south. The river Lawee Khwarr runs to the west of the village.

Facilities

The village is known for its boys' secondary school, which has a large intake.[ citation needed ] The village was also famous during the movement against the Nawab of Dir. The Bagh Malik (Abdul Hameed Khan) or Thor Lali Malik and Malik Abdul Hakeem Khan sons of Malik Muhammad Kamal were the men behind the unification of the state of Dir with Pakistan in 60s.

The Kundi is a subtribe of Niazi tribe of Pashtuns, which inhabit in most areas of Tank and D.I.Khan.They are subtribe of Niazi living mostly in Di khan, Minawali, Waziristan, In Tank, they are spread along through Tank-Pezu road extending up to Mulazai to the adjoining Bhittani area. The Mulazai is approachable through a road, which begins at old Gul Imam railway station. The area around this road is mainly inhabited by kundis with perhaps some pocket of Marwats. There is another circular road recently constructed which begins at Daraki (Maikhani) police station on Tank- Pezu road bypassing the Daraki village, Pai village and joins the Gul Imam-Mulazai road at Ama Khel. The kundi area act as a buffer zone between Tank and Marwats connected through Pezu and Bayan pass. These were the old caravan routes and British were the first to construct asphalt roads on these routes. The main villages of Kundis in Tank are Gul Imam, Shahalam, Abezari, Daraki(Maikhani), Pai, Nandoor (chief of nandoor and Amakhel. Mulazai is perhaps mixture of kundi and Syeds from Kaniguram and marwats in some parts. Gul Imam and Shahalam are the ancestral home villages of Kundi KHANS. Kundis populate majority of Tank District of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan, Some areas in D.I.Khan, some parts of Afghanistan, some of the parts in Balochistan and the ancestors of this tribe is basically from Zabul and KUNDIGHAR in South Waziristan Agency. A good number of Kundis have rendered their services in field of education, politics, civil services, judiciary research etc in Pakistan. This tribe fought many wars against Nawabs of Tank in late 1800s but eventually won some wars and then defeated others. Malak Abdul Wahid Khan aka Nagotal Malak was a political and public figure of Nagotal. A man of courage and bravery and who fought against the tyranny of Nawab of Dir and was thus imprisoned and was forced to hard labour and exile but he didn't give on the Nobel for the freedom of Maiden valley in particular and Dir in general for the same cause for which his father Malak Abdul Ghafar Khan was martyred.He spent his days in exile and arranged protests to get attention of the government and at last he was succeeded and Gen.Ayub Khan made Dir part of Pakistan. The village is surrounded by green mountains. Nagotal has rich water resources.

Dara Utmankhel

Dara Utmankhel, also known as Shaikhan, is a valley in Lower Dir District, Pakistan. It is composed of nine villages: Maniband ما نی بند, Jabaghi جبګۍ, Zara Doghy زړه ډوګۍ, Kot Koshah کوټ کو شاه, Sarybegham سا رۍ بيغم, Kot کوټ, Ghwandy غونډئ, Fazal Abad and Shah Kuronu شاه کو رونه. It lies in Timergara tehsil, east of the road from Timergara to Dir. The inhabitants of this area belong to the Mandal, clan of Utman Khel. The Utmankhel is one of karlanri pashtun or Afghan tribes, who appeared in concert with other tribes like Yousafzai and Tarkalani. They settled initially in the area of Malakand, Bajuar and Mohmand Agency .These people were mostly connected with trade because the lands were not suited for agriculture.
