Bahrain Police Band

The Bahrain Police Band is a uniformed marching band based at Manama Police Fort in Bahrain. It is part of the Ministry of Interior and furthermore the Public Security Forces. It takes part in official ceremonies associated with the House of Khalifa. Its performances also include reinforcing Bahraini nationalism and community partnerships. [1] [2] [3] The band was founded in 1929 when it was then a Protecotrate of the British Empire. [4] [5]

There are several ensembles within the Bahrain Police Band: [6]

The band has performed at public places such as Bab Al Bahrain, [7] the Air Show at Sakhir Air Base [8] and Red Square. In the latter part of the summer of 2010, the band went to Moscow to perform at the Spasskaya Tower Military Music Festival and Tattoo. During the festival, the band performed in front of the King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa. [9] [10] In 2016, the band took part in a joint performance with the Band of the Royal Marines in honor of the bicentennial of Bahrain-United Kingdom relations. [11] In 2017, it took part in the National Independence Day Parade in Washington D.C. under the direction of Major General Mubarak Najem. [12]

The National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain (NYO-GB) is the national youth orchestra of the United Kingdom, consisting of 164 members of ages 13 to 19 years. Their mission is to "give thrilling experiences of orchestral music to teenage musicians and audiences who need them most." Auditions take place in the autumn each year at various locations in the country. The minimum standard needed to audition is ABRSM / Trinity Guildhall / London College of Music Grade 8 Distinction, though it is not necessary to have taken any examinations. In 2011, the orchestra was shortlisted for the Royal Philharmonic Society's Best Ensemble Award. In 2012, the NYO received the Queen's Medal for Music. In 2015 the NYO received the Royal Philharmonic Society's Ensemble award, which recognized particularly the launch of NYO Inspire as well as their other work.

Douglas Yeo is an American bass trombonist who played in the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1985 to 2012, where he held the John Moors Cabot Bass Trombone Chair. He was also on the faculty of the New England Conservatory. In 2012 he retired from the BSO and accepted a position as professor of trombone at the Arizona State University School of Music, a position he held until 2016. In 2019, he was appointed to the faculty of Wheaton College (Illinois).

Fleet Band Activities (FBA), formerly the Navy Music Program (NMP), is the central management office for nine active-duty fleet bands of the United States Navy. It is located at Naval Support Activity Mid-South in Millington, Tennessee. FBA has the responsibility of coordinating the assignment and distribution of personnel, equipment and funding to the worldwide activities of navy military bands. It also is responsible for managing the application and audition process for potential navy musicians. Personnel from the FBA work directly with the Bureau of Naval Personnel to meet our musician requirements for the fleet.

A police band is a military-style band operated or sponsored by a police force. Police bands provide ceremonial support for civic events, and perform at police observances such as funerals and police academy graduations. Most police bands consists exclusively of professional police officers, while others consist of personnel of law enforcement and other special agencies. Like military bands, their repertoire is mostly composed of ceremonial marching music and honors music.

The Indian military bands consists of musicians from the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. Indian military bands regularly participate in international festivals and take part in celebrations dedicated to various national events. These bands are permanent participants in the Delhi Republic Day parade on the Rajpath. Today, the Indian Armed Forces have more than 50 military brass bands and 400 pipe bands and corps of drums. A Tri-Services Band refers to a joint Indian Armed Forces military band that performs together as a unit. At the Spasskaya Tower Military Music Festival and Tattoo in Moscow, the band consisted of 7 officers and 55 musicians. The Military Music Wing of the Army Education Corps is the principal educational institution of the armed forces that provides instruction to musicians of all ranks. Instruction is also provided by the Military Music Training Center and the Indian Navy School of Music.

Maj. Gen. Dr. Mubarak Najem Abdullah Issa Al-Najm is a Bahraini musician and police officer.
