The Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival is an annual military music event and military tattoo held in Moscow on Red Square. Participating in the festival are Russian and foreign military bands, folk groups, and honor guard units of foreign countries. More than 40 countries have taken part in the festival since 2006.[ citation needed ] It is named after the world-famous Spasskaya Tower of the Moscow Kremlin. [1] Its TV partner is TV Centre. The festival's motto is "To Revive Traditions and Preserve History". [2]

Contents

In 2020, the directorate of the festival became a full-fledged member of the Asian Marching Band Confederation (AMBC). [3]

Bands in the Parks

The Bands in the Parks is a program sponsored by Directorate of the Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival and is carried out from May to August in support of the Ministry of Defense of Russia and the Government of Moscow. [31] The first of these performances took place at VDNKh in 2016 and was greeted with a standing ovation by Muscovites and guests of the capital. In the anniversary year a year later, the program of performances was expanded. The number of concerts and city venues involved in the project has increased. [32]

Other low-level participants have included the Republican Specialized Academic Lyceum of Music of the Uzbekistan National Guard [54] and the National Presidential Band of Ukraine.

The President of Russia in his/her position as Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Armed Forces usually delivers a message of congratulations to the organizers and participants of the festival. [61] Greetings are also given by the Russian Defence Minister and the Mayor of Moscow. The day before the festival's opening ceremony, the directors of the participating bands lay wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden. [62] The festival usually coincides with Moscow's City Day, which means that some of the participating bands take part in the procession along Tverskaya Street. [63]

Directors

The musical director of the festival is the senior director of music of the Military Band Service of the Armed Forces of Russia.

Roman Markholia served as producer-director of the festival in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

The Bicycle Showband Crescendo is a Dutch musical group based in Opende, Netherlands. It is a Mounted band, as all of its members perform their instruments on bicycles, serving as a type of Bicycle infantry. Today, the band is the only mounted band of its kind in the world.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sri Lankan military bands</span>

Sri Lankan military bands refer to the joint-service musical units of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces representing the Sri Lanka Army, the Sri Lanka Navy, and the Sri Lanka Air Force. The three bands mentioned, which were established in 1949, 1952 and 1970 respectively and are the seniormost in the armed forces. They are composed of many ceremonial marching bands as well as concert bands which are base for the band's success. The band participates in main social and cultural events, including formal state visits and military parades. All army regiments also contain a regimental band for ceremonial duties.

The Prince's Band of Carabiniers is a part-time military band assigned to provide musical support to the Prince Albert II of Monaco, who is the head of state and the ceremonial head of the Force Publique. Its home unit is the Compagnie des Carabiniers du Prince, which is responsible for the country's defence. All members of the band are trained dually music and in the trades of non-band members. The 26-members of the band are referred to as "rifle-musicians" while the band director is titled a Maréchal des Logis Chef. In 1978, the title of "Fanfare de la Companies des Carabiniers" was adopted.

The Band of the Separate Operational Purpose Division also known by its original name, the Band of the Dzerzhinsky Division, is a military band of the National Guard Forces Command of the Rosgvardia. It is part of the Military Band Service of the National Guard of Russia. It is based out Reutov in the Moscow Oblast. The current director of the band is Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Kolesnikov.
