Baktygul Janybekovna Jeenbaeva (born 31 July 1960) is a Kyrgyzstani politician who has been the country's Finance Minister since December 2018. [1]
Jeenbaeva was born on 31 July 1960 in Bishkek, then called Frunze and part of the Soviet Union. [2] Her father, Janybek Jeenbaev, a nuclear physicist, was president of the Kyrgyz Academy of Sciences. [3] She has degrees in mathematics and economics from the Kyrgyz National University. [4]
Jeenbaeva worked as an economist for the production association Ak-Tilek from 1985 until 1992. She was then an economist at the Department of External and Public Relations. [2] In 2007 she became General Director of the New Television Network. [2] In 2010 she became acting Chair of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic and in 2016, chair of the Board of the State Mortgage Company. [2] [5] [6] At the time, she publicly lamented the Bank's lack of independence. [7]
Jeenbaeva has been a member of the Akshumkar political party since 2007. [2] From 6 July 2018 until 12 December 2018 she was an advisor to the president of Kyrgyzstan. [2] [5]
On 12 December 2018, the Parliament approved Jeenbaeva's candidacy as Minister of Finance with 101 members voting for her [8] after Prime Minister Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev proposed her for the position. [9] She was officially appointed by President Sooronbay Jeenbekov the following day. [5]
In 2019, Jeenbaeva was called as a witness in a criminal case against the Legal Representation Center for the alleged embezzlement of funds. [10] [11]
Jeenbaeva is divorced and has a son. [2]
The history of the Kyrgyz people and the land now called Kyrgyzstan goes back more than 3,000 years. Although geographically isolated by its mountainous location, it had an important role as part of the historical Silk Road trade route. Turkic nomads, who trace their ancestry to many Turkic states such as the First and Second Turkic Khaganates, have inhabited the country throughout its history. In the 13th century, Kyrgyzstan was conquered by the Mongols; subsequently it regained independence but was invaded by Kalmyks, Manchus, and Uzbeks. On 31 August 1991, Kyrgyzstan declared independence from Moscow, and a democratic government was subsequently established.

The Security Council of Kyrgyzstan is a political/constitutional body in the Office of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic. Its tasks are to consider internal and external threats to Kyrgyzstan and maintaining its security and defense. Being a purely advisory body, it aides the President in developing his/her decisions related to the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan and other law enforcement bodies. The security council was renamed in 2010 to the defense council and was reverted to its former name in March 2017. Aida Kasymalieva is a Kyrgyz journalist and politician who has been deputy speaker of the Supreme Council since December 2018. She has been an advocate for women's rights in the context of domestic violence, bride kidnapping and child marriages within her country.
Parliamentary elections were held in Kyrgyzstan on 4 October 2020. The results showed that pro-government parties had won a supermajority of seats. The election was subsequently annulled by the Central Election Commission during the 2020 Kyrgyzstan protests.

Ulukbek Asamidinovich Maripov is a Kyrgyz politician who served as Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan from 5 May 2021 to 12 October 2021. He was the first to serve in this position, serving in this position after the post of Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan was abolished. Prior to being appointed prime minister Maripov had led the Kyrgyz Account Chamber.

Japarov Üsönbek uulu Aqylbek is a Kyrgyz politician serving as Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan since 12 October 2021. He replaced Ulukbek Maripov, who had been appointed to the new role by President Sadyr Japarov on 5 May 2021. Aqılbek is also concurrently the Head of the Presidential Administration under President Japarov.
