balans (stylised in lowercase) is a band from Ljubljana, Slovenia that has been producing music since 2013. Their first concert was held in Umag, Croatia at the first edition of Indirekt festival. Since 2016, they have been collaborating with Italian contemporary artist Alessandro di Giampietro, with whom they present an audiovisual concert experience to the audience.

History

Their debut physical album, titled Bunkerpop, was released in 2017 by the independent label ŠOP Records. [1] [2]

In February 2018, ŠOP Records released also their second physical album titled Kva je s tabo... with critical acclaims. [3] [4] The same year they were chosen to perform on the 18th tour of Club Marathon, which Radio Študent organises in order to support and promote the domestic musical scene. [5]

In January 2019, they were invited to perform at the 5th edition of Ment Festival in Ljubljana. [6] On May 13, their next physical album was released A vam je jasno (again at ŠOP Records), which they promoted with a concert tour from Vienna to Skopje. In that time, they were chosen as one of the INES Talent 2020 [7] and got more positive reviews regarding their work. [8] [9] [10] [11]

After their tour, they were invited to an art residency at Layer House in Kranj and free to pick the collaborator(s) of their choice. Balans invited members of Belgrade independent label Krava 22 of the art space Kvaka 22 and recorded an album under the name New Balkan Wife. [12]

In January 2020, they recorded their sixth studio album Sam pravm at Radio Študent Ljubljana. It was later released later in the year at the independent record label KAPA Records. [13]

Presidential elections were held in Slovenia on 22 October 2017. Nine candidates ran in the first round of the elections, in which the incumbent independent President Borut Pahor placed first and Marjan Šarec of the List of Marjan Šarec (LMŠ) placed second. No candidate received a majority of the vote in the first round, resulting in a run-off between Pahor and that was held on 12 November 2017. Pahor won the run-off with 53% of the vote; voter turnout in the second round was 42.13%, the lowest in any presidential election since independence.

There are multiple groups and organisations within Slovenia which are or have been engaged in far-right political activity, and right-wing extremism. Their political activity has traditionally opposed and targeted socially progressive policies, and minorities, and espoused traditional ultraconservative and reactionary views and values. More recently, a rise in new, incipient alt-right groups has been noted, particularly as a reaction to the European migrant crisis. While far-right actors have been responsible for multiple acts of violent extremism in Slovenia it is a relatively minor issue in the country.

Senida Hajdarpašić, known by her stage name Senidah, is a Slovenian singer-songwriter. Often dubbed the "Balkan Trap Diva" by the media, she was born in Ljubljana and rose to prominence as the lead singer of the band Muff. She rose to popularity across the former Yugoslavia upon the release of her solo single "Slađana" in March 2018.

<i>Bez Tebe</i> 2019 album by Senidah

Bez Tebe is the debut studio album by Slovenian singer Senidah. It was released on 25 March 2019 by Belgrade-based label Bassivity Digital. Senidah wrote the album mostly with her frequent collaborators Benjamin Krnetić and Anže Kacafura, who produced the record. The album produced three official singles: "Slađana", "Belo" and "Bez tebe". "Nisi bio tu" was also released as a promotional single. Primarily an alternative R&B and trap record, Bez Tebe also incorporates synth-pop and trip hop elements. Lyrically, songs are about searching for love.
