Balakudru Shrimatha is the Gurupeetha for the brahmins of South Canara District mainly Shivalli sects who follow Advaitha philosophy. The ashram is headed now by Shri Shri Narasimha Ashrama Swamiji, who also selected his successor-designate Shri Vasudeva Sadashiva Ashrama Swamiji on 22nd Nov 2024 in Bengaluru in the traditional manner, in a ceremony conducted by highly respected Vedic scholars in the presence of various other Math heads like Hariharapura and Kailash Ashrama and representatives from Moolamnaya Sarvajna Shri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham.
Balakudru Shrimatha is situated at the confluence of Sita and Swarna rivers. The main deity is God Narasimha. This place is near Hangarakatte Village in Udupi district of Karnataka state.
"Balakudru Sreematha" follows the Bhagavatha Sampradaya according to Advaitha which is well established all around India by Shri Adi Shankaracharya, the uplifter of Sanatana Dharma. This is the only Advaitha Peeta in entire Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. This Shri Matha has more than thousands of years of history and is stated to be founded by Kaivalyashrama Swamy. This is the ‘Sannidhi’ of Lord Lakshminarasimha, Goddess Sharadamba, Sangameshwara, Heramba Ganapathi, and Varadaanjaneya. This is situated in a place by name ‘Hangaarakatte’ located in between the National Highway of Udupi-Kundapur which is near the confluence of ‘Sita’ and ‘Swarna’ rivers. The beautiful idol of the God Shri Lakshminarasimha is stated to be brought from Badari Kshetra by Kaivalyashrama Swamy. There are several branches of this Matha in Karnataka.
The fact that when the Shreematha is established is unknown. As per the tradition of Shreematha, it is believed that Sage Kaivalyashrama who belongs to the tradition of Kumārila Bhaṭṭa (one who believed as the disciple of Gaudapada, who was the Guru of Shankaracharya ) established it. Kaivalyashrama traveled towards South India after visiting all the holy pilgrims in North India. After visiting Shankaranarayana kshetra, he enters a city called Soura in the beds of the river Shuktimati. Samantha, the king of the Soura region got influenced by the sage and donated his land for running ashrama there. Later the sage travels to Jalapura (Today's Neelavara), worships Ambika, makes all the arrangements for Nitya-pooja over there with the help of localities. Then through Brahmavara he enters the land of Balakudru and establishes this Shrimatha over there. Kaivalyashrama's Vrindavana is believed as exists in a lake called Mayagundi near Udupi which is considered as Aadi-Vrindavana of Shrimatha.

Havyaka Brahmin, originally called Havika Brahmana, is a Hindu Brahmin community native to the districts of Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, coastal Karnataka and the Kasaragod district of Kerala. Havyakas fall under the Pancha-Dravida Brahmin category; they are the followers of Yajurveda. Some of them follows Rigveda and Samaveda Shakas also. They follow the Advaita philosophy of Adi Shankaracharya.

The Shivalli Brahmins are a Hindu Brahmin community in Karnataka. They are divided into two groups, the first of who follow the Dvaita philosophy founded by the Vaishnava saint Madhvacharya of Udupi are called Shivalli Madhva Brahmins, and the second of who follow the Advaita philosophy of Adi Shankara are known as Shivalli Smartha Brahmins. Majority of Shivalli Brahmins are Madhvas and only a few of them are Smarthas.

Bannanje Govindacharya was an Indian philosopher and Sanskrit scholar versed in Veda Bhashya, Upanishad Bhashya, Mahabharata, Puranas and Ramayana. Shree Samsthana Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math or Partagali Math is the first Gaud Saraswat Mathas of the Dvaita order, a system established by Jagadguru Madhvacharya in the 13th century AD. Puthige Matha or Puttige Mutt in some records and literature is a Madhwa Vaishnava monastery. It is one of the Ashta Mathas of Udupi founded by Dvaita philosopher Madhvacharya of Udupi. The first pontiff of Puttige matha was Sri Upendra Tirtha, who was a direct disciple of Sri Madhvacharya, the founder of the Dvaita school of philosophy. The main idols worshipped in the Puttige matha are that of Panduranga (Vittala), which was given to Sri Upendra Tirtha by Sri Madhvacharya. Till date, there have been 29 pontiffs who have headed the matha.

Shri Gaudapadacharya Math, also known as Kavaḷē maṭha, located in Kavale, Ponda, Goa, is the oldest matha of the Smarthan Saraswat Brahman Samaj. It was founded by Gauḍapāda around 740 AD, whose student was Govinda Bhagavatpada, the guru of Adi Shankara, a highly influential figure in Hinduism. There is also a belief that Gauḍapāda himself established the Shri Gaudapadacharya matha when he lived in Gomantak (Goa). Thus, the matha came to be known as Shri Saunstan Gaudapadacharya matha. Unlike other mathas, Shri Gaudapadacharya matha is not a polemical center established to influence the faith of all Hindus, its jurisdiction is limited to only Dakshinatya Saraswat Brahmins. The Peetadhipathi "head monk" is Śrī Gauḍapadācārya. Smartist Goud Saraswat Brahman Samaj and Rajapur Saraswat Brahmin are its main disciples.
The Advaita Guru-Paramparā is the traditional lineage (parampara) of divine, Vedic and historical teachers of Advaita Vedanta. It begins with the Daiva-paramparā, the gods; followed by the Ṛṣi-paramparā, the Vedic seers; and then the Mānava-paramparā, with the historical teachers Gaudapada and Adi Shankara, and four of Shankara's pupils. Of the five contemporary acharyas, the heads of the five Advaita mathas, four acharyas trace their lineage to those four pupils and one to Adi Shankara himself.

He is the 54th Guru of this mutt. He took sannyasa and ordination from Shri Jayendra Saraswathi Mahaswamiji of Kanchi Matha which is known as Kanchi kamakoti Peetham. He is a follower of Advaita Vedanta.
Ramachandrapura Math (monastery) is a Hindu monastery located in Hosanagara taluk of Shimoga, Karnataka. The Matha is followed mainly by the Havyaka Brahmins in Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shimoga districts of Karnataka and Kasaragod district of Kerala. It was established by Adi Shankaracharya originally near Gokarna, a holy town on the west coast of India. The matha was initially known as Raghuthama Matha. The Swami of the matha is a celibate (brahmacharya) and a Havyaka by birth. He adds the title Bharati to his name. The present guru is Jagadguru Shankaracharya Shri Raghaveshwara Bharathi MahaSwamiji. He was initiated sanyasa by his guru Jagadguru Shankaracharya shri Ragavendra Bharati mahaswamiji the 35th Pontiff of Shri Ramachandrapura Mutt.
Madhva Brahmins, are Hindu Brahmin communities in India, who follow Sadh Vaishnavism and Dvaita philosophy propounded by Madhvacharya. They are found mostly in the Indian states of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Koteshwara Brahmins are a Hindu Brahmin subcaste mainly from the Indian state of Karnataka. The community is mainly concentrated in the Koteshwara, Kundapur, and surrounding areas of Udupi district in Karnataka. The community takes its name from the village Koteshwara, which is their native place. Koteshwara Brahmins follows the Dvaita Vedanta propounded by Madhvacharya and are followers of Sodhe Vadiraja Swami Matha.
Subramanya Matha or Sri Samputa Narasimha Matha is a Matha of the Shivalli Madhva tradition based in Kukke Subramanya in Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka, India. It has several branches, including one at Mumbai. The Subramanya Matha at Kukke offers sevās including Sarpa Samksara, Naga Pratiste and Aslesha Bali which has been cause of friction with the nearby Kukke Subramanya Temple. As of 2025 the Subramanya Matha is headed by Shri Vidyaprasanna Tirtha swamiji, with the previous pontiff Vidyabhushana retiring to become full time devotional singer.
