Bangladesh Development Forum is a biannual, was annual till 2005, conference in Bangladesh between the government and donor agencies. [1] This is an invite only meeting let by the Finance Minister of Bangladesh. [2]

History

The first meeting of the Bangladesh Development Forum was held in 2002. [3] It replaced the Aid Consortium held in Paris. [4]

On 2 March 2005, Bangladesh government announced that they will take over the management of Bangladesh Development Forum from the World Bank. The government announced they will provide funding and make arrangements to hold the forum through Economic Relations Division under the Ministry of Finance. The government also stated that the conference would be biannual rather than annual from now on. [5]

In 2015, the Bangladesh Development Forum meet five years after the last meeting in 2010. The Government of Bangladesh, presented a US$10 billion pe year plan to invest in the infrastructure of Bangladesh. The meeting was attended by Janina Jaruzelski, head of USAID Bangladesh and co-chairperson of the Local Consultative Group, told the media discussions will focus on Bangladesh graduating to a middle income country by 2021. [6]

In January 2018, the two day Bangladesh Development Forum meeting took place at Pan Pacific Sonargaon, Dhaka. OPEC Fund for International Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Asian Development Bank, and the World Bank were represented at the meeting. [7] [8] [9] The meeting hosted 700 delegates and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. [10]

In January 2020, the forum meeting took place at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center. [10] [11]

Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank is a state-owned specialized bank in Bangladesh, a specialized financial institution for financing the farmers of the 16 districts of Rajshahi and Rangpur. The headquarters of the bank is in Rajshahi.

Bangladesh Development Bank is a state-owned specialised commercial bank in Bangladesh. The bank has one of the highest loan default rates in Bangladesh. Shamima Nargis is the chairperson of the bank. Kazi Alamgir is the chief executive officer and managing director of the bank.

Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC (IBBPLC) is an Islamic banking company based in Bangladesh. It became incorporated on 13 March 1983 as a public limited company under the Companies Act 1913 and started operation on 30 March, the same year. IBBPLC maintains its own ATM Booths with a country-wide shared ATM network. IBBPLC has been the largest private banking network in Bangladesh. When IBBPLC was established, it was the first bank in Southeast Asia to provide banking service based on Shariah. The bank has been listed with both Dhaka Stock Exchange Ltd. and Chittagong Stock Exchange Ltd.

Tabarak Husain was a former Bangladeshi career diplomat. He was foreign secretary of Bangladesh from 1975 to 1978. He also held the position of chairman of Sadharan Bima Corporation and Grameen Bank.

Shegufta Bakht Chaudhuri was a Bangladeshi economist who served as the fourth governor of Bangladesh Bank, the central bank of Bangladesh during 1987–1992, and was also the advisor of the first caretaker government of Bangladesh in 1996.

Fazle Kabir is a Bangladeshi bureaucrat, economist and central banker. He served as the 11th Governor of Bangladesh Bank, the central bank of Bangladesh. Prior to this position, he served as the Finance Secretary to the government and chairman of the state-owned Sonali Bank. He also served as a director of another state-owned Janata Bank.

The Bangladesh Secretariat, also known as Bangladesh Sachibalaya or Old Secretariat, is the administrative headquarters of the Government of Bangladesh, and houses the majority of ministries and government agencies and bodies. The secretariat can refer to the complex of ministries, or refer to the Bangladesh Civil Service central administration. Its political heads are the ministers while the administrative heads are the Secretaries to the Government. It is located in Bangladesh's capital city of Dhaka. The Infrastructure Investment Facilitation Company (IIFC) (Bengali: অবকাঠামো বিনিয়োগ সুবিধা সংস্থা) is a Bangladesh government company that acts as an advisory body under the Economic Relations Division of the Ministry of Finance. Hedayetullah Al Mamoon is a retired Senior Secretary at the Ministry of Finance of Bangladesh and the chairperson of Janata Bank.

Shamima Nargis is a retired government Senior Secretary and Chairperson of Bangladesh Development Bank. She is a former member of the Planning Commission.

Metro Group is a Bangladeshi diversified conglomerate based in Dhaka. It is the parent company of Best Holding Limited which owns Le Meridien Dhaka.
