An Olympic-size swimming pool is a swimming pool which conforms to the regulations for length, breadth, and depth made by World Aquatics for swimming at the Summer Olympics and the swimming events at the World Aquatics Championships. Different size regulations apply for other pool-based events, such as diving, synchronized swimming, and water polo. Less onerous breadth and depth regulations exist for lesser swimming competitions, but any "long course" event requires a course length of 50 metres, as distinct from "short course" which applies to competitions in pools that are 25 metres in length. If touch pads are used in competition, then the distance is relative to the touch pads at either end of the course, so that the pool itself is generally oversized to allow for the width of the pads.

The 16th FINA World Championships, also Aquatics 2015, were held in Kazan, Russia from 24 July to 9 August 2015. Russia hosted this event for the first time. The number of participating national teams (190), athletes (2,400) and the number of medals (75) were the most ever amongst these championships. This was the first time the World Aquatics Championships partially overlaps with the FINA World Masters Championships that have a number of athletes, countries (110) and medals (635) which are the most ever also.

It is located inside the headquarters of the Armed Police Battalion in Uttara, Dhaka. The sports facility built at a cost of 20 crore Bangladeshi taka. It was inaugurated and opened for use by members of the Bangladesh Police on 24 November 2019. It is also a venue for various swimming sports and water polo.

Built in the 1970s, the sports facility belongs to the Bangabandhu National Stadium Complex in Paltan, Dhaka. It is one of the three swimming pools located in Dhaka city. It is affiliated to the National Sports Council, like the official venues for all swimming sports events in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Swimming Federation maintains the pool. Its current name is posthumously named after Ivy Rahman.
Syed Nazrul Islam National Swimming Complex built in 1993, is the national and international swimming sports hosting and training venue of Bangladesh. It is the main swimming venue in Bangladesh and the third venue within Dhaka city, It is affiliated to the National Sports Council, like the official venues for all swimming sports events in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Swimming Federation maintains the pool. The pool is posthumously named after Syed Nazrul Islam. Due to its location, the facility is known as Mirpur Swimming Complex.
