The Bangladesh Tea Board or BTB, [1] an autonomous body responsible for creating laws regarding tea production, controlling and encouraging the production of tea and is located in Chittagong, Bangladesh. [2] [3] [4] It is under the Ministry of Commerce. [5]
Pakistan Tea Board was established in 1951 through the passage of Pakistan Tea Act. [6] The first president of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was chairman of the board in 1957. [7] [8] The act was replaced with Tea Ordinance in 1959. [6]
After the independence of Bangladesh, the Bangladesh, Tea Ordinance in 1977 created a three member board and expanded to eleven with the Tea (Amendment) Ordinance in1986. [6]

In March 2018, Chairman Md Shafeenul Islam of the tea board was made head of Border Guard Bangladesh and was replaced with Major General Md Jahangir Al Mustahidur Rahman. [9]
Three employees of the board received the National Integrity Award in 2022. [10] It sought to increase tea cess from 1 percent to two percent. [11] The board helped tea production in Bangladesh reach a 168 year high. [12]
Ziaur RahmanBU HJ HOR was a Bangladeshi military officer, freedom fighter and politician who served as the sixth President of Bangladesh from 1977 until his assassination in 1981. One of the most influential leaders of the Bangladesh Liberation War, he broadcast the Bangladeshi declaration of independence on 27 March from Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra radio station in Kalurghat, Chattogram. He was the founder of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He previously served as the third chief of army staff from 1975 to 1978 with a minor break.

The University of Chittagong is a public research university located in Hathazari, Chattogram, Bangladesh. It was established on 18 November 1966. It is one of the oldest universities in Bangladesh. Its 2,312.32 acres (935.76 ha) campus is the largest among universities in Bangladesh. It is one of the four autonomous by the act universities of Bangladesh.
Lt. Col. Abu Taher BU was a Bangladeshi military officer and war hero. He first served in the Pakistan Army, and later defected to the Bangladesh Army during the Bangladesh Liberation War. He crossed into India around early August and reported to the Indian authorities. After a week screening at Dehradun, India, Taher reported to Kolkata, Bangladesh Provincial government at 8 Theatre Rd. He was ordered to report to Sector 11 of Mukti Bahini under command of Major Ziaur Rahman, he became the sector commander after him. He served in BDF from end of August to 2 November 1971. He was awarded the medal Bir Uttom for his gallantry in the liberation war. He was released from military service by Indian military medical board in Pune, India after his leg was amputated. After independence, he was inducted into the Bangladesh Army for administrative retirement with legacy rank of lieutenant colonel. After settling in with family, the government of Bangladesh appointed him with employment at Kumilla. Later Taher turned into a political activist and leader of the left-wing Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal.
Abdur Rahman Biswas was a Bangladeshi politician. He was the President of Bangladesh from 1991 to 1996. Biswas represented Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly, prior to the independence of Bangladesh.

Tarique Rahman, also known as Tarique Zia, is a Bangladeshi politician and businessman, who is the acting chairman of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) since February 2018. He is the eldest son of former president Ziaur Rahman and former two-time prime minister Khaleda Zia. He is widely seen as a powerful figure in BNP and held several high-profile positions within the party, including the post of senior joint secretary general. In 2018, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for organizing the 2004 Dhaka grenade attack.

Ziaur Rahman, the sixth president of Bangladesh, was assassinated by a faction of officers of Bangladesh Army, on 30 May 1981, in the southeastern port city of Chittagong. Rahman went to Chittagong to arbitrate in a clash between the local leaders of his political party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. On the night of 30 May, a group of officers commandeered the Chittagong Circuit House, a government residence where Rahman was staying, shooting him and several others.

Independence Day is celebrated on 26 March as a national holiday in Bangladesh. It commemorates the country's declaration of independence from Pakistan in the early hours of March 26, 1971.
Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury was a Bangladeshi politician, minister and six-term member of Jatiya Sangsad and member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee, who served as the adviser of parliamentary affairs to Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in from 2001 to 2006. On 1 October 2013 he was convicted of 9 of 23 charges and sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh for crimes during the 1971 Bangladesh War of Independence. However, limitations placed on his defense testimony were called "disturbing" and the trial was politically motivated.
Rezzakul Haider Chowdhury is a retired Bangladesh Army officer who is the former director of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence and National Security Intelligence.
Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury is a standing committee member of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, and former minister of commerce. He hails from a political family in Chittagong and headed the city's BNP unit momentarily to organize the party.
Md. Enamur Rahman is a Bangladesh Awami League politician. He served as the State Minister for Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief during 2019–2024 and the Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Dhaka-19 constituency during 2014–2024.
The non-cooperation movement of 1971 was a historical movement in then East Pakistan by the Awami League and the general public against the military government of Pakistan in March of that year. After the announcement of the suspension of the session of the National Assembly of Pakistan on 1 March, the spontaneous movement of the people started, but officially on the call of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the non-cooperation movement started on 2 March and continued until 25 March. The movement lasted for a total of 25 days.

Mohammad Ziauddin, BU is a retired Bangladeshi military officer, who was the Commanding Officer of the 1st East Bengal Regiment during the Bangladesh Liberation War. He was awarded the Bir Uttom, the country's second highest gallantry award for his outstanding bravery in the Liberation War. His certificate number was 22.
