The Asian Football Confederation is a governing body of association football, beach soccer, and futsal in some countries/territories in Asia and Oceania. It has 47 member countries most of which are located in Asia. Australia, formerly in OFC, joined AFC in 2006. Guam, a territory of the United States, and the Northern Mariana Islands, 1 of the 2 commonwealths of the United States are also AFC members that are geographically in Oceania. The Asian Ladies Football Confederation (ALFC) was the section of AFC who managed women's association football in Asia. The group was independently founded in April 1968 in a meeting involving Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. In 1986 ALFC merged with AFC.

The country's greatest sucess in football was their 2003 SAFF Championship tiumph along with winning gold at 1999 South Asian Games. Traditional sports like Athletics, Swimming, Ha-du-du, Boli Khela, Lathi Khela are mostly played in the rural areas while foreign sports like hockey, volleyball, handball, golf etc. are more popular among the urban folks. The National Sports Council (NSC) is the governing body to control all the sports federations and councils in the country and is responsible to the ministry of youth and sports. There are a total of 42 different sports federations affiliated with the NSC. Bangladesh Games is the largest domestic multi-sport tournament in the country where athletes and sports teams from all the districts participate.
Bangladesh national under-20 football team represents Bangladesh in international youth football competitions in SAFF U-18 Championship, AFC U-19 Championship and FIFA U-20 World Cup, as well as any other under-20 & under-19 international football tournaments. The team is operated under the Bangladesh Football Federation.
Independence Cup is a cup competition in men's association football. The competition started in 1972 and is run by the Bangladesh Football Federation, which is responsible for all types of competitive matches in the country. The teams from the country's premier league and other clubs compete in the tournament. Most of the matches are played in the country's main football venue Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Mariano "Nonong" V. Araneta, Jr. is a Filipino sports executive, businessman and retired footballer. Araneta formerly played for the Philippines national football team. He is the current president of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) and a member of the FIFA Council since May 2017.
Monwar Hossain Nannu was a Bangladeshi professional football player during the 1970s and early 1980s. Initially, He played as an attacking midfielder for Abahani Limited Dhaka in Dhaka League.
