The Bank of Missouri began as The Bank of Perryville which received a state charter on November 2, 1891.

From 1891 until 1902, The Bank of Perryville served as the only bank in Perry County, Missouri.

In June 1997, The Bank of Perryville changed its name to The Bank of Missouri, and expanded into Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Another location in Perryville was also built in 1997, and a loan production office opened in Jackson, Missouri in 1998.

The Bank of Missouri operates two banks in Perryville and Jackson, four in Cape Girardeau, and one each in Scott City, Patton, Marble Hill, Columbia, Steele and Caruthersville in Missouri, as well as offering full-service brokerage services and Bank of Missouri Investments and Retirement Planning division.

As of 2020, the bank has 29 branches in Missouri, [1] and US$2.045 billion in assets. [2] The bank offers credit cards that are issued by The Bank of Missouri, and it offers other credit cards for subprime borrowers. Fortiva Retail Credit is a consumer credit program in partnership with retail companies.

The Limbaugh family is a prominent political family from Missouri. Its members have served as attorneys, politicians, judges, and political commentators in Missouri and the United States. The most well-known member is former conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh. The first family member in America, Georg Friedrich Limbach was born in Germany circa 1737 and immigrated to the United States, arriving in 1753 to Berks County, Pennsylvania as a young man. In 1758, George married Anna Catharine Ritter and had six sons. George settled in Missouri Territory in 1800 with his youngest son Michael and 19 other families. The family developed ties to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and served in a number of municipal capacities, including the governance of Southeast Missouri State University.

The Battle of Cape Girardeau was a military demonstration of the American Civil War, occurring on April 26, 1863 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The conflict was part of the pursuit of US Brigadier General John McNeil through Southeast Missouri by Confederate Brigadier General John S. Marmaduke. Though the conflict to this day is known as a battle, it was a relatively small engagement whose primary importance was as the turning point that brought General Marmaduke's second Missouri raid to an end.

Via I-55 St. Louis is 84 miles (135 km) to the north and Cape Girardeau is 34 miles (55 km) to the south.

George Christian Thilenius was a German-born American politician, soldier, and businessman from the state of Missouri. He is known for the being a Missouri state representative, mayor of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and for the Colonel George C. Thilenius House which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
