Baptiste Brochu (born September 8, 1994) is a Canadian snowboarder, competing in the discipline of snowboard cross. [1] [2]

Snowboarding is a recreational activity and Winter Olympic and Paralympic sport that involves descending a snow-covered slope while standing on a snowboard attached to a rider's feet.

Snowboard cross competition in which a four to six snowboarders race down a course

Snowboard cross, also known as boardercross, is a snowboard competition in which four to six competitors race down a course. Snowboard cross courses are typically quite narrow and include cambered turns, various types of jumps, berms, rollers, drops, steep and flat sections designed to challenge the riders' ability to stay in control while maintaining maximum speed. It is not uncommon for racers to collide with each other mid-race.

Career

Brochu first appeared at a World Cup in December 2013. Brochu got on the podium for his first time (also his first win) in March 2016 at the World Cup in Veysonnaz, Switzerland. Brochu was ranked in the top-10 of the World Cup snowboard cross standings for the 2015–16 and 2016–17 seasons. [1]

The FIS Snowboard World Cup is an annual snowboarding competition, arranged by the International Ski Federation (FIS) since 1994. Throughout the years they have come and gone different disciplines, and categories that grouped some of the disciplines.

Veysonnaz is a municipality in the district of Sion in the Swiss canton of Valais.

The 2015/16 FIS Snowboard World Cup is 22nd multi race season in snowboarding. Competition consists of the parallel slalom, parallel giant slalom, snowboard cross, halfpipe, slopestyle and big air.

Mark McMorris Canadian snowboarder

Mark Lee McMorris is a Canadian professional snowboarder who specializes in slopestyle and big air events. While filming for Transworld Snowboarding's "Park Sessions" video in March 2011, Mark became the first person to land a Backside Triple Cork 1440. More recently, on 28 April 2018, Mark landed the world first Double Cork off of a rail, the Front-Board Double Cork 1170 with melancholy grab. Mark has also left his mark at X-Games and other events. In 2012 and 2013, Mark won back-to-back gold medals in Winter X Games in the slopestyle event. He competed in the slopestyle event at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, where he won a bronze medal, Canada's first medal in those Games. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, he won a bronze medal in the slopestyle event, only 11 months after a snowboarding accident with near-fatal internal injuries. He has also appeared in many videos for Transworld Snowboarding, Burton, Redbull, CBC, Shredbots.

Spencer O’Brien is a Canadian snowboarder. She was born in Alert Bay, British Columbia, and is of Indigenous descent. She won the gold medal in slopestyle at the 2013 FIS Snowboarding World Championships.

Evan Strong American Para-snowboard cross racer

Evan Strong is an American Para-snowboard cross racer who began his career in 2008. He is the gold medalist in para snowboard cross at the 2014 Paralympics in Sochi, Russia and lead the USA team to a sweep of the podium. He was the 2012 World Champion and has won ten WFS and IPC World Cup races.

Michelle Salt is a Canadian Paralympic Snowboarder. She was in a life-threatening motorcycle accident June 27, 2011 that left her on life support for 7 days, broke numerous bones, having to endure many surgeries and in the end, lost her right leg above the knee. She is recently retired (2019) National team athlete for the Canada Snowboard para-team with 14 World Cup podiums. She was selected in February 2014 to compete in the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russia and upon competing, became the first Female Canadian Paralympic Snowboarder. In 2018, she competed in the PyeongChang South Korea games finishing fourth and fifth. She is currently reigned National Champion in Canada and in January 2015, made her first World Cup Podium on home turf at Big White finishing 3rd. She is now a 14x World Cup Medalist.

Canada competed at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, from February 9 to 25, 2018. It was the nation's 23rd appearance at the Winter Olympics, having competed at every Games since their inception in 1924. Canada competed in all sports disciplines, except Nordic combined. The chef de mission was Isabelle Charest, who was appointed in February 2017.
