Barbara Blaha (23 September 1983) is an Austrian author, founder of the political congress Momentum and the think tank Momentum Institute and editor of the Moment magazine. Blaha is the former chairwoman of the Austrian Student Union.
Blaha was born into a working-class family, the second of seven children. [1] [2] She attended elementary school and high school in Simmering. Blaha studied German at the University of Vienna and graduated in 2009. [1] In 2008, Blaha founded the Momentum Kongress in Hallstatt. [1] After her time with the Austrian Student Union, Blaha became commercial manager at the Vienna-based Czernin Verlag. She managed non-fiction for Brandstätter Verlag from 2014, and became responsible for the digital strategy. [3] In 2018 she also took over the Art & Life Division.
Blaha started the think tank “Project360” in 2019, which became the Momentum Institute and Moment Magazine. [4] [5] [6] The Momentum Institute is financed by donation and carries out social research. [7] [8]
Blaha started her social efforts in 1997 when she and her school friend revived the dormant school newspaper project Der Gottschalk. She became involved with her school student council and the Vienna State Student Council. During this time she also became involved in the Action for Critical Students Vienna, of which she was Secretary and chairwoman. [9]
During her studies she began to get involved with the Socialist Students of Austria (VSStÖ). She was in the education policy department of the Austrian Student Union, responsible for questions regarding the Bologna Process. [10] She was elected to the Austrian Student Union Leadership Team, and served as chair for two years. She was elected to the University Council of the University of Salzburg in 2013.
Blaha is one of the co-founders of the Vienna Ball of Sciences. [11]
Margarete "Grete" Schütte-Lihotzky was an Austrian architect and a communist activist in the Austrian resistance to Nazism. She is mostly remembered today for designing what is known as the Frankfurt kitchen.

Born into a Jewish family in Vienna near the end of the First World War, she was educated in Austria and Czechoslovakia but emigrated to London after the latter was annexed by Germany in 1938. While in the United Kingdom, she worked at the Hampstead Nurseries, an experimental child care centre run by the psychoanalyst Anna Freud. She was married to the jurist and resistance activist Joseph Simon.
Claudia Plakolm is an Austrian politician of the People's Party (ÖVP) and State Secretary in the federal government of Nehammer. She was sworn in as a member of the National Council on 9 November 2017. Since 15 May 2021 she has been the federal chairman of the Young People's Party (JVP).
