Barbara Carle is a French-American poet, critic, translator and Italianist. She is Professor Emerita of Italian [1] at California State University Sacramento. [2]
Carle has published several books of poetry in the U.S. and Italy. Most of her books are bilingual (English/Italian). She has also translated books of poetry by contemporary Italian poets, such as Rodolfo Di Biasio, Gianfranco Palmery, Alfredo di Palchi, Marco Vitale. [3] She authored numerous articles on Italian and French poetry, and prefaced various volumes of translation. Her work appeared in various European anthologies. [4]
Born to American and French parents in Peshawar, Pakistan, Carle spent most her childhood and adolescence abroad (Pakistan, Colombia, India, Bangladesh, Iran, Thailand, Libya, France, Italy) as she grew up in a diplomatic family. She obtained a doctorate in Italian Literature with specializations in French and Comparative Literature at Columbia University, New York City in 1988. Her dissertation was on Giuseppe Ungaretti and Paul Valéry.

This bilingual book includes a selection of poems published in various American and Italian literary journals between 1983 and 2022. Some poems are in Italian only. All bilingual poems result from continuous rewriting of English and Italian versions: there is no original nor dominant language in this process. Section II, entitled Shipwreck-Naufragio includes a long narrative poem Voices of the Northener 1860 (originally published in Journal of Italian Translation, 2014). It was also published as an art book with engravings by André Beuchat, Atelier Alma Charta, Parma, 2019.
This new edition of Tangible Remains/Toccare quello che resta (2009) includes a revised selection of the original sequence. Most of the poems have been rewritten in both languages. The book is entirely reorganized. It includes new poems (such as "Window I/Finestra I", "Clepsydra"/"La clessidra"). Seven poems from the first edition have been excluded from this new collection. However, they have been moved to the Appendix, which also includes a new poem entitled "The Rag"/"Lo straccio". [9]

Carle regularly contributes to Journal of Italian Translation (JIT) with translations from English into Italian. She has translated poems by Ralph Waldo Emerson, Greg Delaney, T. S. Eliot, Rachel Hadas, and Marianne Moore [26] into Italian. Claudio Damiani is an Italian poet. He was born in San Giovanni Rotondo in the south of Italy (Puglia) in 1957 though at an early age, he moved to Rome where he still lives. He made his debut in 1978 in Nuovi Argomenti, the magazine directed by Pasolini, Moravia and Bertolucci. In the first half of the 1980s, he was among the founders of the magazine Braci, where a new classicism was proposed. Inspired by ancient Latin poets and by the Italian Renaissance, his themes are mainly nature and cosmos, with a side attention to current scientific research. "If the Horatian scenes of Sabina refer to a type of modern Arcadia, their specific quality is above all to approach a voice that is internal and literally poetic, refounded and reguarded like an unexpected and precious gift". His poems have been interpreted by such actors as Nanni Moretti and Piera Degli Esposti. Main prizes and awards: Premio Montale, Premio Luzi, Premio Lerici, Premio Volterra, Premio Laurentum, Premio Brancati, Premio Frascati, Premio Alpi Apuane, Premio Camaiore.

Mario Benedetti was an Italian poet. He was among the founders of the contemporary poetry magazines Scarto minimo and Arsenal littératures.
Franco Loi was an Italian poet, writer, and essayist. He was born in Genoa, and died in Milan, aged 90. He made his debut in 1973 as a poet using dialect and had a good success with the work I cart, and the following year, 1974, with Poems of love. In 1975, the poet proved to have reached complete maturity of expression with the poem Stròlegh, published by Einaudi with a preface by Franco Fortini.
Giampietro Pontiggia, also known by the pen name Giampiero Neri, was an Italian poet. He was noted for his novel style; his work is known for its concise, dry, and unembellished style, and veined with melancholy and humor. His work was often written in prose. He was part of the fourth generation of Lombard line.
Omero Vecchi, known by his pen name Luciano Folgore, was an Italian poet.
