The estate remained with the Stewart family, later known as the Shaw-Stewart family, following a prominent marriage in the 18th century. Over time, the estate grew in significance, and the present Ardgowan House, a grand stately home, was commissioned by Sir John Shaw-Stewart in the 19th century.[4]
The estate has a rich history, with connections to the Scottish Wars of Independence, and during the 17th century, the region was linked to notable witch trials. In modern times, the house served as an auxiliary hospital during both World Wars.
