Barry Can't Swim (real name Joshua Mainnie) is a Scottish electronic music producer and DJ from Edinburgh. His debut album When Will We Land? was released on 20 October 2023, being shortlisted for the 2024 Mercury Prize and featuring in numerous critics end of year lists. He was nominated for Best Dance Act at the 2024 Brit Awards. [1]
Barry Can't Swim released his debut EP, Amor Fati, through Shall Not Fade in July 2021, [2] [3] and followed this up in 2022 with More Content [4] via Technicolour Records, a Ninja Tune imprint. [5] [6]
He released his debut full-length album, When Will We Land? [7] [8] [9] on 20 October 2023 via Ninja Tune. [10] The album charted at #12 in the UK Albums Charts, winning BBC Radio 1's award for "Best Dance Album", and receiving acclaim from critics. [11] Clash Magazine rated the album 9 out of 10, describing it as "varied, zeitgeisty and just plain fun", highlighting its "astonishing" attention to detail. PopMatters ranked it as the best electronic album of 2023, calling it a "tour-de-force of 11 tracks that are so perfectly edited and composed that not a single note is wasted". The album was cited as one of the best albums of 2023 by Billboard (magazine), Clash Magazine, Mixmag, DJ Mag and PopMatters.
In December 2023, he won the DJ Mag 'Breakthrough Producer' award. [12]
In January 2024, it was announced [13] that he would be performing at Coachella 2024. He also closed the weekend off in a surprise back to back DJ set with Bonobo at the Do Lab stage. [14]

He identifies as more of a musician than a producer, emphasising a preference for crafting music using instruments. [9]
Mainnie attended St Thomas of Aquin's High School in Edinburgh, and went on to study music at Edinburgh Napier University. [11]
Mainnie began music through piano at the age of nine, after his grandfather found a 'free to a good home' advert in the local paper. [17]

Daniel Victor Snaith is a Canadian composer, musician, and recording artist. He has released 10 studio albums since 2000 and has recorded and performed under the stage names Caribou, Manitoba, and Daphni. His Caribou album Andorra (2008) was awarded the 2008 Polaris Music Prize, his Caribou album Swim (2010) was a shortlisted nominee for the 2010 Polaris Music Prize and was named the Best Album of 2010 by Resident Advisor. His follow-up Our Love (2014) was also shortlisted for the 2015 Polaris Music Prize and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album.

Dehaney Nia Lishahn Hunt, known professionally as Nia Archives, is an English record producer, DJ, singer and songwriter. Born in Bradford in West Yorkshire, she moved to Leeds aged seven, out of the family home aged sixteen, and then to Greater Manchester, during which time she was inspired by jungle documentaries and their women participants. After finding herself messed about by local producers, she began producing her own jungle and drum and bass works; after moving to Hackney Wick for university and finding that no record labels would release them, she released them herself, attracting attention for the EPs Headz Gone West and Forbidden Feelingz. After featuring on numerous 'best of' lists, she released a third EP, Sunrise Bang Ur Head Against the Wall, in 2023, which topped the UK Dance Albums Chart, followed by an album, Silence Is Loud, which peaked at No. 16 on the UK Albums Chart. Hunt is generally regarded as being at the forefront of the post-2020 drum and bass revival, and has been cited as an inspiration by Piri.
When Will We Land? is the debut studio album by Scottish musician Barry Can't Swim, released on 20 October 2023. The album charted at No. 12 on the UK Albums Chart in its first week of release. The album was nominated for the 2024 Mercury Prize, and won the BBC Radio 1 Dance Award for Best Album in February 2024.
