Barry George Cooper (born 30 November 1958) is a former New Zealand cricketer who played 62 first-class matches for Northern Districts in the 1980s and in the 1990s. He also played for Northland in the Hawke Cup. [1]
Cooper was born in Whangārei and attended Whangārei Boys' High School. [2] A right-handed batsman,he scored 2,982 runs at a batting average of 28.13 runs per innings in first class matches. The highest score of his four centuries,an unbeaten 116 runs,came against an England touring side in 1988. [3] He took 26 wickets with his off breaks,with his only five wicket haul,5 wickets for the cost of 40 runs,coming against Otago. He scored 2,009 runs in 80 list A one-day matches with one century and took 34 one day wickets. He played for Derbyshire Second XI in 1980 and 1981.
Cooper now coaches cricket in Whangārei. His son Henry has played for Northern Districts since the 2016/17 season.
Alan Philip Eric Knott is a former cricketer who represented England at international level in both Tests and One-Day Internationals (ODI). Knott is widely regarded as one of the most eccentric characters in cricket and as one of the greatest wicket-keepers ever to play the game. He was described by cricket journalist Simon Wilde as "a natural gloveman,beautifully economical in his movements and armed with tremendous powers of concentration".
Adam Craig Gilchrist is an Australian cricket commentator and former international cricketer and captain of the Australia national cricket team. He was an attacking left-handed batsman and record-breaking wicket-keeper,who redefined the role for the Australia national team through his aggressive batting. Widely regarded as one of the greatest wicket-keeper-batsmen in the history of the game,Gilchrist held the world record for the most dismissals by a wicket-keeper in One Day International (ODI) cricket until it was surpassed by Kumar Sangakkara in 2015 and the most by an Australian in Test cricket. Gilchrist was a member of the Australian team that won three consecutive world titles in a row:the 1999 Cricket World Cup,the 2003 Cricket World Cup,and the 2007 Cricket World Cup,along with winning the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy.
Malcolm Denzil Marshall was a Barbadian cricketer. Primarily a fast bowler,Marshall is widely regarded as one of the greatest and one of the most accomplished fast bowlers of the modern era in Test cricket. He is often acknowledged as the greatest West Indian fast bowler of all time,and certainly one of the most complete fast bowlers the cricketing world ever saw. His Test bowling average of 20.94 is the best of anyone who has taken 200 or more wickets. He achieved his bowling success despite being,by the standards of other fast bowlers of his time,a short man –he stood at 180 cm,while most of the great quicks have been well above 183 cm and many great West Indian fast bowlers,such as Joel Garner,Curtly Ambrose,and Courtney Walsh,were 197 cm or above. He generated fearsome pace from his bowling action,with a dangerous bouncer. He also statistically went on to become the most successful Test match bowler of the 1980s with 235 wickets with an average of 18.47 within a time period of just five years. Marshall was a part of the West Indies team that reached the 1983 Cricket World Cup Final,but lost to India by 43 runs.
Robert William Taylor MBE is an English former cricketer who played as wicket-keeper for Derbyshire between 1961 and 1984 and for England between 1971 and 1984. He made 57 Test,and 639 first-class cricket appearances in total,taking 1,473 catches. The 2,069 victims across his entire career is the most of any wicket-keeper in first-class history. He is considered one of the world's most accomplished wicket-keepers. He made his first-class debut for Minor Counties against South Africa in 1960,having made his Staffordshire debut in 1958. He became Derbyshire's first choice wicket-keeper when George Dawkes sustained a career-ending injury. His final First Class appearance was at the Scarborough Festival in 1988. He remained first choice until his retirement except for a short period in 1964 when Laurie Johnson was tried as a batsman-wicketkeeper.
Daren Julius Garvey Sammy is a Saint Lucian cricketer who played international cricket for the West Indies. He is currently serving as the head coach of the West Indies cricket team in limited overs cricket. He is a two time T20 World Cup winning captain. On making his One-Day International (ODI) debut against Bangladesh in 2004,Sammy became the first person from the island of St Lucia to play international cricket. Three years later he made his Test debut against England,taking 7/66 which were the best bowling figures for a West Indian in his first Test since Alf Valentine in 1950. Sammy was appointed West Indies captain in October 2010. He scored his maiden Test century in May 2012 during a match against England. Sammy was a member of the West Indies team that won the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy.

Bradley-John Watling,known as BJ Watling,is a South African-born former New Zealand international cricketer who has represented Northern Districts since December 2004. He made his Test debut in December 2009 and eight months later played his first One Day International. In 2012,Watling assumed the role of wicket-keeper in Tests.
Mark Nicholas Lathwell is a former English cricketer who played in two Test matches in 1993. Lathwell played the entirety of his first-class cricket career for Somerset County Cricket Club.
The England cricket team toured Australia and New Zealand between October 1962 and March 1963 with a one-match stopover in Colombo,en route to Australia. The tour was organised by Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and,in all matches other than Tests,the team was called MCC. In Australia,the tour itinerary consisted of 15 first-class matches,including the five-match Test series against Australia in which The Ashes were at stake. It was the last England cricket tour of Australia where the team travelled by ship.
Timothy Grant Southee,is a New Zealand international cricketer who plays for New Zealand cricket team in all formats of the game,captain in Tests and vice captain in T20Is. He is a right-arm fast-medium bowler and a hard-hitting lower order batsman. The third New Zealand bowler to take 300 Test wickets,he was one of the country's youngest cricketers,debuting at the age of 19 in February 2008. On his Test debut against England he took 5 wickets and made 77 off 40 balls in the second innings. He plays for Northern Districts in the Plunket Shield,Ford Trophy and Super Smash as well as Northland in the Hawke Cup. He was named as New Zealand's captain for the first T20I against West Indies in place of Kane Williamson,who was rested for that game. The Blackcaps won that match by 47 runs. Southee was a member of the New Zealand team that won the 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship.

William Roberts Holt is a former New Zealand cricketer,who played two first-class cricket matches for Northern Districts in the 1964–65 season. A right-arm medium pace bowler,Holt took four wickets at 35.00,and scored 37 runs with the bat at 18.50. He also played ten matches for Northland in the Hawke Cup.
Anthony Warren Short is a former New Zealand cricketer who played three first class cricket matches and a single one day match for Central Districts between 1978 and 1980. A right-handed batsman,he struggled at first-class level,scoring only 96 runs from five innings –largely in a career-best knock of 33. He did,however,enjoy greater success as an all-rounder in District Cricket's Hawke Cup for Wairarapa,and as a bowler for Central District's under-23 team. He was also a very occasional right-arm medium bowler,who sent down a tidy yet wicket-less 64 balls.

Jake Weatherald is an Australian cricketer. He had a breakout season in 2015–16,making his first-class debut for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield and scoring two half-centuries in the final. He has since had contracts with both South Australia and the Strikers in every season.
Harry Nielsen is an Australian cricketer,the son of former South Australian cricketer Tim Nielsen. During the 2017–18 season,he made his debut in all three major forms of the game,first-class,one-day and Twenty20 cricket playing for Cricket Australia XI in the JLT One-Day Cup and tour matches,the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League and South Australia in the Sheffield Shield.
