Palacio de La Moneda, or simply La Moneda, is the seat of the president of the Republic of Chile. It also houses the offices of three cabinet ministers: Interior, General Secretariat of the Presidency, and General Secretariat of the Government. Located in downtown Santiago, it occupies an entire block in the Civic District, bordered by Moneda street to the north, Morandé street to the east, Alameda del Libertador Bernardo O'Higgins to the south, and Teatinos street to the west.

It was founded by the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy, has its origin in the third temple of the Basilica of La Merced that was in this site, built in 1760, its first tower was built in 1859 and its second tower in 1885 completing the building. The Plaza de Armas is the main square of Santiago, the capital of Chile. Plaza de Armas metro station is located under the square. Gruta de Lourdes is an underground metro station on the Line 5 of the Santiago Metro, in Santiago, Chile. It is located close to the western branch of the Autopista Central and the Basilica of Lourdes. East of the station, Line 5 runs beneath Quinta Normal Park. The station was opened on 12 January 2010 as part of the extension of the line from Quinta Normal to Pudahuel.

It will also intersect and the future Line 7 at Baquedano station. Its distinctive colour on the network line map is green.
