All games were held in the Zayar Thiri Indoor Stadium which hosted both men's and women's tournaments. The Philippines successfully defended the title for the sixteenth time as they went undefeated in the competition.

The 2022 AFF U-23 Championship was the 3rd edition of the AFF U-23 Championship, organised by ASEAN Football Federation (AFF). The tournament was held from 14 to 26 February in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Indonesia were the defending champions, having won the 2019 edition. The tournament was held amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Indonesia and Myanmar withdrew from the tournament after several of their players tested positive for COVID-19.

The men's basketball tournament at the 2021 SEA Games was held at the Thanh Trì District Sporting Hall in Hanoi, Vietnam from 16 to 22 May 2022.

The 2022 FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championship was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Asia at the 2023 FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup. The tournament, which was also the 25th edition of the biennial competition, was held in Bangalore, India from 5 to 11 September. The hockey competition at the 2023 SEA Games featured two medal events and the competition took place at the Morodok Techo National Stadium, Phnom Penh from 9–16 May 2023.

The men's football tournament at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games was held in Cambodia. Ten Southeast Asian nations entered the men's tournament. The tournament was limited to players exclusively under-22 years of age.

The women's football tournament at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games was held from 3–15 May 2023 in Cambodia. Eight Southeast Asian nations participated in the women's tournament. All matches are played in Phnom Penh. There is no age limit for this tournament. Indonesia withdrew from the competition after the draw. Timor-Leste did not take part in the competition.
