The Soufrière Hills are an active, complex stratovolcano with many lava domes forming its summit on the Caribbean island of Montserrat. After a long period of dormancy, the Soufrière Hills volcano became active in 1995 and continued to erupt through 2010. Its last eruption was in 2013. Its eruptions have rendered more than half of Montserrat uninhabitable, destroying the capital city, Plymouth, and causing widespread evacuations: about two-thirds of the population have left the island. Chances Peak in the Soufrière Hills was the highest summit on Montserrat until the mid-1990s, but it has since been eclipsed by various rising and falling volcanic domes during the recent volcanic activity.

The Montserrat Championship is the top association football division in Montserrat. It was created in 1974 but has been competed-for only sporadically, partially as a result of the Soufrière Hills eruption causing widespread devastation to the island in 1997. Between 2005 and 2015, no league was played. The league restarted in 2016, but has been stopped again in 2018.

The sport of association football in the island of Montserrat is run by the Montserrat Football Association. The Montserrat Amateur Athletic Association (MAAA) is the governing body for the sport of athletics in Montserrat. Current president is Bruce Farara. It is also the body responsible for Montserrat's representation at the Commonwealth Games.

The 1975 season of the Montserrat Championship was the second season of top flight association football competition in Montserrat. Having won the cup final, known as the Barclays Knockout Trophy for sponsorship reasons, the previous season, Bata Falcons won the championship.

Elizabeth Constance Griffin was a Montserratian female barrister. She was the first-ever female barrister in the British Crown Colony of Montserrat.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Montserrat was a part of the ongoing global viral pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which was confirmed to have reached the British Overseas Territory of Montserrat on 17 March 2020. The first death occurred on 24 April 2020. By 15 May, all patients had recovered. On 10 July, a new case was discovered. On 7 August, there were no more active cases.
