Baxter B. Stiles (June 26,1824 [1] - September 30,1889) was an American politician. He served as mayor of Denver,Colorado from 1869 to 1871,and again from 1877 to 1878. [2] Born in Newbury,Vermont,he died in Denver,and is buried in that city's Riverside Cemetery. [3]

He served one full term before resigning from his second term,the second resignation of a Baltimore mayor. It is likely that Stiles resigned as a result of bad health,as he died several months later. Incumbent Democratic mayor Michael Hancock was term-limited and could not seek a fourth term in office. A historic field of seventeen candidates filed to run in the race to succeed Hancock.
