Beat the System is a Malaysian/American pop band from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. [1] Formed in Malaysia by lead guitarist Stewart Sellan, the band is currently based in New York City. The band consists of lead vocalist Shannon Gibbons, [2] lead guitarist Stewart Sellan, drummer/composer Gerald Sellan and composer Adrian Puan. Since the band's formation, there has been several line-up changes.
The band's debut single, "Gone", was on TraXX FM charts for 10 weeks in a row and 4 weeks at number 1. Beat the System has released multiple singles, including 2009's "Penipuan Berwaris", which was also selected as the single of Warner Music Malaysia compilation album "Indiestructable:Spirit of Freedom", [3] 2010's "Transisi" a track that was written and produced by Beat the System for Warner Music Malaysia/EMI artist Fiq for his second album 'Diagnostik', [4] and 2012's "Shine" featuring Malaysian Idol winner Jaclyn Victor. [3]
In response to their single "Shine", Beat the System won the Song of the Year Award, Best Collaboration Award [5] and Best Genre Bender Award at the 2012 Asian Voice Independent Music Awards featuring bands all over Asia. [3] [6] [7]
In 2010, Beat the System was certified with Tipped to Be the Next Big Thing by the Asian Voice Independent Awards committee. [8]
Diana Meltzer discovered and arranged their move to the US. [9]
In 2005, lead guitarist Stewart Sellan met Rage at a church in Johor Bahru and started writing songs. The duo realized that they needed a bassist to perform and Sam Seelan was introduced to the band by Rage. It was when Stewart Sellan decided to move to Kuala Lumpur, that he realized his brother Gerald Sellan was a drummer and offered him to join the band. Gerald Sellan was appointed as the band leader after a couple of years and the band was directed towards a newer sound.
After the departure of Rage, Gerald Sellan and Adrian Puan were appointed to be songwriters for the band. [10]
After composing 10 brand new tracks, the band recorded a 30-minute EP and begins to shop for label in the US in which it caught the attention of Diana Meltzer of Monster Hits Music. [11]
Diana Meltzer, upon hearing the Beat the System EP, flew to Malaysia and started developing the band. [12] [13] [14] [15] In December 2014 the band was relocated to New York to work on their debut album, Journey, with producer Andy Anderson, [16] Grammy Awards nominated engineer Damien Page Lewis [17] and mastering engineer Chris Athens. [16] [18] The band also acquired a new lead singer, May Leigh. [19] After her departure in 2019, she was later replaced by Shannon Gibbons,[ citation needed ] a former American Idol contestant. [20]

Barenaked Ladies (BNL) is a Canadian rock band formed in 1988 in the Toronto suburb of Scarborough, Ontario. The band developed a following in Canada, with their self-titled 1991 cassette becoming the first independent release to be certified gold in Canada. They reached mainstream success in Canada when their debut with Reprise Records, Gordon, featuring the singles "If I Had $1000000" and "Brian Wilson", was released in 1992. The band's popularity subsequently spread into the US, beginning with versions of "Brian Wilson" and "The Old Apartment" off their 1996 live album Rock Spectacle, followed by their fourth studio album Stunt, their breakout success in 1998. Søren Madsen was an original member of the group since its formation but left in 2000. Khurram Waqar is a guitarist/producer from Pakistan who also directs and produces his own music videos. He has been part of various rock bands for the last 20 years, with varying degree of success. He is currently involved in multiple projects, including his international collaboration with 'Brothers in Arms', the 'Guitar Collective' initiative, his band 'kW and the Facedown Movement', guitar instrumentals, video logs, Facebook live jams, and collaboration with musicians. Earlier in 2019, kW & FDM won Rock Song of the Year for 'Todi, the Smoker' at the annual Video Music Awards (VIMA), beating bands from India, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Previously, as part of the rock outfit Qayaas, he won Best Rock Band (Pakistan) at the Rolling Stones/Jack Daniels Annual Music Awards in 2010, and also won big at the IndieGO awards in Malaysia in 2012.
Diana Meltzer is an American music industry executive. She is the owner of Monster Hits Music and was the co-owner of the world largest independent label Wind-up Records with her ex-husband Alan Meltzer. She is primarily known for discovering and signing Grammy award-winning band Creed, Evanescence, and other bands such as Alter Bridge, Seether, Drowning Pool, Finger Eleven, Beat The System, Company of Thieves, 12 Stones, Thriving Ivory, Bright Eyes, People in Planes, Stereo Fuse She first began her career as a fashion model. Later Meltzer owned a record store in Connecticut in the late 1980s before she was asked to assume the role of an A&R. In 2004 Meltzer became the first woman to top HitQuarters' World Top 100 A&R Chart, a considerable achievement in what is traditionally a male-dominated field. Other #1s have included Clive Davis, Tommy Mottola, Dr. Dre and Mark Williams. Meltzer is still known to be the 'Woman with the Golden Ears'.
Masterpiece is an Iban rock band, which formed in 2003 as Masterjam in Sibu, Sarawak best known for its hit singles, "Sinu", "Kumang Seari" & "Ngarap Ka Nuan Nikal Pulai". The band comprises vocalist Depha Masterpiece, lead guitarist Willy Edwin, bassist Watt Marcus, drummer Harold Vincent, keyboardist Valentine Jimmy and Roslee Qadir. The group was renamed Masterpiece in 2005 after Depha was hired as the band's new vocalist. HMGNC is an Indonesian electronic and synth-pop band from Bandung, West Java. Named after Icelandic singer Björk’s 1997 album Homogenic, the band was formed in 2002 and changing the original band name to its present name in 2015. Original members are Risa Saraswati, Dina Dellyana and Grahadea Kusuf.
