Beate Richter is a German former figure skater who represented East Germany. She is the 1967 Blue Swords champion, [1] the 1967 Prague Skate silver medalist, [2] and a four-time East German national medalist. She finished in the top ten at the 1967 European Championships in Ljubljana, Yugoslavia. Her skating club was TSC Berlin. [3]

Manuela Manja Groß is a German former competitive pair skater. With partner Uwe Kagelmann, she is a two-time Olympic bronze medalist, and she is the youngest female figure skating Olympic medalist. She turned 15 just four days before the opening of the 1972 Winter Olympics, held in Sapporo, Japan, where she won her first bronze medal in pairs skating.

Heinz-Ulrich Walther is a German former pair skater who represented East Germany and the United Team of Germany in competition. With Heidemarie Steiner, he is the 1970 World bronze medalist and a three-time European bronze medalist. Walther competed at two Winter Olympics, placing 11th in 1964 with Brigitte Wokoeck and fourth with Steiner in 1968.
Axel Rauschenbach is a German pair skater who competed for Germany and, before its reunification, East Germany. With Mandy Wötzel, he is the 1989 European silver medalist, the 1989 & 1990 East German national champion, and 1991 German national champion.

East Germans swept the ladies' podium, led by Beate Richter, who won her first gold medal at the event after three previous podium results. Soviet ice dancers Lyudmila Pakhomova / Aleksandr Gorshkov defeated the defending champions, Annerose Baier / Eberhard Rüger of East Germany, who had beaten them a year earlier.

In the pairs' category, Heidemarie Steiner / Heinz-Ulrich Walther won the first of their three consecutive gold medals at the event.

Lyudmila Pavlovna Suslina is a Russian former pair skater who represented the Soviet Union. With Alexander Tikhomirov, she is the 1968 Winter Universiade bronze medalist. The pair also won silver at the 1967 Blue Swords, silver at the 1967 Prize of Moscow News, and gold at the 1968 Blue Swords.
