Bella White is a Canadian singer and songwriter. She was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Her music blends Appalachian, bluegrass, folk, and country elements with contemporary songwriting.[1][2]
White grew up in a musical family and was exposed from an early age to bluegrass, folk, and country artists.[2][1] At 19 she left Calgary for Boston and recorded her first album, Just Like Leaving, at Guilford Sound studios in Vermont in early 2020.[3] Following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, she returned to Canada before eventually moving to Nashville, Tennessee.[2]
Career
White released Just Like Leaving independently in 2020, later re-released by Rounder Records in 2021 after signing with the label.[4]
Her second album, Among Other Things (2023), was produced by Jonathan Wilson at Fivestarstudios in Topanga, California and released by Rounder Records.[5] The album received favorable reviews from outlets including PopMatters and Americana Highways.[5][6][7]
White made her debut at the Grand Ole Opry in April 2023.[8] Her song “Burn Me Once” appears on The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes – Music From and Inspired By (Geffen Records, 2023).[9]
In 2024 she released the EP Five for Silver, a collection of cover songs.[10][11]
Critics have described White’s music as blending traditional bluegrass and Appalachian folk with modern Americana and singer-songwriter elements.[1][4][5] Her songwriting has been noted for introspective themes and sparse, acoustic arrangements.[6][2]
