Bienvenido "Ben" Manga Ubenga (born 11 February 1974) is an Equatoguinean former footballer who played as a midfielder. He is currently technical director of 2. Bundesliga club Schalke 04.

Career

Manga was born in Bata. He managed three scoreless Bundesliga appearances for Fortuna Düsseldorf in the 1995–96 season. [2]

In July 2016, Manga was appointed Chief Scout of Eintracht Frankfurt, [3] a role in which he held until 2021 when he also took on the role of Director of Football. [4] On 30 November 2022, he departed the club by mutual consent. [5]

On 22 December 2022, Manga was appointed technical director of EFL Championship club Watford. [6] In the following winter transfer window Ismaël Koné and João Ferreira were signed, Henrique Araújo loaned. Mangas only summer transfer window at Watford saw the hiring of Valerien Ismael as coach, and players like Mileta Rajkovic, Tom Ince, while some top performers left. He departed the club in October 2023. [7]

On 10 May 2024, Schalke 04 announced that Manga became their new director of squad planning, scouting and youth academy. [8]

Personal life

He lives in the English city of London and also holds German citizenship. Manga also worked as an auto mechanic. He has a cousin, Juan Oburu, who plays for TV Jahn Hiesfeld. [9]

The 2010–11 season was Eintracht Frankfurt's 111th season and their 6th consecutive season in the German Bundesliga.

The 2010–11 DFB-Pokal was the 68th season of the annual German football cup competition. The competition began on 13 August 2010 with the first round and concluded on 21 May 2011 with the final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. The competition was won by Schalke 04, who eliminated title holder Bayern Munich in the semi-finals. By clinching the cup, Schalke thus qualified for the play-off round of the 2011–12 UEFA Europa League.

The 1974–75 season was the first time Tennis Borussia Berlin played in the Fußball-Bundesliga, the highest tier of the German football league system. After 34 league games, Tennis Borussia finished in 17th position, second from the bottom of the table, only one place above Wuppertaler SV. SV Werder Bremen won its first ever German double, clinching both Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal. Following a club record-breaking league season, Werder won the title six points clear of Bayern Munich, with Aílton hitting 28 goals, the most ever from a Werder Bremen player. The cup victory was clinched following a 3–2 win against Alemannia Aachen, with defensive midfielder Tim Borowski the unexpected hero, hitting Alemannia with a brace. The title successes were Thomas Schaaf's first in his managerial career. Werder, however, lost both Aílton and defensive senior talisman Mladen Krstajić to FC Schalke 04, since both refused to sign new contracts with the club.
