BenchPrep is an American company that provides cloud-based study guides for standardized tests, professional certifications, and K-12 classroom learning. It has partnered with educational publishers such as McGraw Hill, John Wiley & Sons, and the Princeton Review to create interactive, digitized courses. [5] [6]

History

BenchPrep, formerly known as Watermelon Express, was founded in 2009 by Ashish Rangnekar and Ujjwal Gupta, [7] after Ashish Rangnekar won the New Venture Challenge at the University of Chicago. [8] [9] Shortly thereafter, BenchPrep received $2.2 million in seed funding from Lightbank, the executives behind Groupon. [10] In July 2012, the company announced a $6 million round of funding from New Enterprise Associates and Revolution LLC. [11] [12]

In 2019, the company announced a $20 million round of funding from Jump Capital and Owl Ventures. [13] [14]

Coursera Online education technology company

Lightbank is a financial organization that specializes in making venture capital investments in "disruptive" technology companies in the United States including seed investments, Series A round and late-stage investments. Unlike most such companies, it does not concentrate on Silicon Valley, but has a presence across the United States. It was founded by Brad Keywell and Eric Lefkofsky. It is headquartered in Chicago and it has made investments in companies in Chicago, New York City, Omaha and the Bay Area.

Quixey

Quixey was a company located in Mountain View, California. Quixey search, which it called "functional", allowed apps to be searched for by the actions the app can perform instead of requiring the user to know the name of the app. In 2015, Quixey raised a $60 million investment round at a valuation of approximately $600 million. Quixey shut down in February 2017.

Declara is a social learning and collaboration technology company based in Palo Alto, Calif.

Bench Accounting, is a fintech company that uses proprietary software to automate bookkeeping and provide financials for small business owners. Bench was founded in 2012 by Ian Crosby, along with Jordan Menashy, Adam Saint, and Pavel Rodionov. The company provides subscription access to cloud-based software in combination with in-house bookkeepers. Bench has raised $53M in funding to date and currently employs around 550 people out of its Vancouver headquarters.

Playground Global is an early-stage venture capital firm that invests in deep tech and assists startups with software, hardware, machine learning, marketing, talent and design. The company was founded in 2015 by Andy Rubin, Peter Barrett, Matt Hershenson and Bruce Leak. Playground offers startups support with engineering, distribution, manufacturing and financing in exchange for equity.

Connectifier was an American company that developed machine learning-based searching and matching technology to help recruiters and hiring managers find talent. The company was acquired by LinkedIn in February 2016 and operated as a wholly owned subsidiary until April 2020. The company had roughly 50 employees at the time of acquisition and drew its bench of AI talent from prestigious institutions including Google, Amazon, Stanford, Microsoft Research, NASA, Caltech, Carnegie Mellon, and Berkeley National Lab.

Hustle is an American company that provides a peer-to-peer text messaging platform for areas such as politics, higher education, and non-profits. The platform initiates personal conversation between organizations and their targeted supporters or clients. Hustle was founded in December 2014, by Perry Rosenstein, Roddy Lindsay, and Tyler Brock.
