Chibuike Benjamin Nnonah (born September 22, 1994), born in Enugu State, better known as Benjamz, is a Nigerian record producer [1] who has worked with artists including Phyno, Burna Boy, Dremo, Tekno, Illbliss and Yung6ix. He was born and raised in Enugu. Benjamz produced six tracks from Phyno's The Playmaker album. He is most notable for co-producing African Giant by Burna Boy with Kel-P, which was nominated for a Grammy Award. [2] He also produced "Gum Body" featuring Jorja Smith from the same album [3] [4] and "Stfu" from Codename Vol. 2 by Dremo.

Early life

Benjamz is a native of Agbani in Nkanu West Enugu State. He is a graduate of industrial physics from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology. [5]

Career

His breakthrough as a record producer came in 2016, when he produced the track "Pino Pino" by Phyno off his The Playmaker album. In 2017, he was nominated in the "New" Discovery Producer category at the 2017 edition of The Beatz Awards. Benjamz has gone on to produce and be credited in popular songs and albums including The Playmaker by Phyno, African Giant by Burna Boy, Old Romance by Tekno, Codename Vol. 2 by Dremo and Deal with It by Phyno. He was given a special recognition by the Grammy academy for his work on African Giant by Burna Boy [6] [7]

<i>African Giant</i> 2019 studio album by Burna Boy

African Giant is the fourth studio album by Nigerian singer Burna Boy. The album was released on July 26, 2019, by Spaceship Entertainment, Bad Habit, Atlantic Records and Warner Music. The album is a mixture of Afrobeats, Afrobeat, dancehall, pop and hip hop. It was produced primarily by Kel-P, along with production from Benjamz, Dre Skull and Skrillex, among others. The album features guest appearances from Jorja Smith, Jeremih, Damian Marley, Zlatan Ibile, Angelique Kidjo, Serani, M.anifest, YG and Future. It was supported by eight singles, including "On the Low", which won Viewers' Choice at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, "Killin Dem", which won Song of the Year at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, among other awards; and "Anybody", which Burna Boy performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

The album features guest appearances from M.I, Flavour, Onyeka Onwenu, Tidinz, Mr Eazi, Olamide, DeCarlo, 2Baba, Burna Boy, P-Square, and Zoro. Production was handled by Del B, Masterkraft, Major Bangz, Benjamz, Tunex, Chris Stringz, TSpize, and Kezyklef.
