The Bergamo Lions are an American football team from Bergamo, Italy established in 1983 and playing in the Italian Football League. They won the Eurobowl in 2000, 2001 and 2002, while losing to the Vienna Vikings in the finals of 2004 and 2005 Eurobowl. In Italy, the Lions have won the Italian league championship more than any other team 12 times. The Lions last Italian Championship was won in the 2008 season.

The Lions sign and pay American and Canadian professional import players to play for the team alongside Italian players and European import teammates. A few examples are former New England Patriots running back Scott Lockwood who played for the Lions 1994-1996, QB Bradlee Van Pelt 2009-2010, Kansas City Chiefs and Toronto Argonauts wide receiver Jeris McIntyre (2008-2009) and running back Tyrone Rush 1998-2004. [1] The Lions have also recruited and signed many American coaches, such as Adam Rita, John Rosenberg (American football) as head coach and Brian Baldinger as their offensive line coach. [2]

Bradlee Van Pelt is a former American football quarterback and safety. He was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the seventh round of the 2004 NFL Draft, and was also a member of the Houston Texans, Bergamo Lions in Italy and Leicester Falcons England. Van Pelt played college football at Michigan State and Colorado State.

Adam Rita is a gridiron football coach & general manager, most notably in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He has served as the head coach of the Toronto Argonauts, Ottawa Rough Riders, and BC Lions and as general manager of the Lions and Argonauts. Since leaving the CFL in 2012, Rita has been coaching American football in Europe. Coaching the Bergamo Lions in the Italian Football League (IFL), Calanda Broncos in Switzerland, Prague Panthers in Czech, Berlin Adler Germany, Barcelona Dragons in Spain, in the newly formed European League of Football (ELF) in 2021 and returned again to the Bergamo Lions in 2022.

The Hamburg Blue Devils are an American football team in Hamburg, Germany. It was founded in 1992. The Blue Devils are one of the most successful American football clubs in Germany, having won four German Bowls as well as three Eurobowls. During the late 1990s and early 2000s, the clubs rivalry with the Braunschweig Lions dominated the game in the German Football League, with the two sides meeting in six German Bowls between 1998 and 2005 as well as the 1999 Eurobowl.

John David Rosenberg is a former American football coach. His coaching career has spanned over 30 years at a variety of levels, including collegiate and professional teams in the United States, and pro club teams in the Italian Football League and German Football League in Europe. Most notably, he served as head football coach at Brown University from 1984 to 1989, compiling a record of 23–33–3. Rosenberg is credited by some as the creator of the zone blitz defense made popular by the Pittsburgh Steelers. His career has included national championships in three countries.

David F. Ritchie was an American gridiron football coach in college football, the Canadian Football League (CFL), the Italian Football League (IFL), and Switzerland Nationalliga A. He is best known for his time as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach from 1999 to 2004. He was a three-time Grey Cup champion, having won in 1990, 1994, and 2006 and was named the CFL's Coach of the Year in 2001. He won 108 regular season games as a head coach in the CFL which is the seventh highest win total by a head coach in the league's history.
